Air Conditioner/Generator Help

My AC will operate just fine on shore power but not exclusively on the onboard generator anymore. After the 30-40 sec delay when the generator is started, the AC compressor will attempt to engage and then will eventually bog down the generator to where it stops. The generator is operating at normal voltage and amperage. Any thoughts?

Welcome to JOF

For reference, what size A/C and generator are you using?

The generator is an Onan 4000 and the AC is (120V/30amp), 15K BTU, I believe.

It sounds like your AC and generator are both operating normally.

Is all that generator voltage getting to the AC?

The generator governor could be bad and not kicking the throttle up enough for the load.
