cekkk, you're right, it's a nightmare getting the battery in. Fairly easy getting it out if you don't mind banging it on the front cap a few times though. I've done everything you did to maximize the room to access the battery box. I installed a battery cutoff switch on the front of the box-see pics. What the pictures don't show is that I carefully cut the front of the battery box off and hinged it back into place so now the front [where the cutoff switch is located] will "open" to about 45* with the lid off to give greater access to install/check fluids.
