Battery Placement Problem

The only real complaint I've got with our Eagle is the battery sits underneath the cap and is a PITA to remove/reinstall. A battery cutoff switch solves one problem, but checking fluid levels is way too difficult. I've already moved the propane tanks forward as much as possible giving a little more wrestling room. The only place I can see to move it would be the forward storage area behind the cap and that doesn't seem safe. The link shows the problem. The battery tray isn't even visible. cekkk, you're right, it's a nightmare getting the battery in. Fairly easy getting it out if you don't mind banging it on the front cap a few times though. I've done everything you did to maximize the room to access the battery box. I installed a battery cutoff switch on the front of the box-see pics. What the pictures don't show is that I carefully cut the front of the battery box off and hinged it back into place so now the front [where the cutoff switch is located] will "open" to about 45* with the lid off to give greater access to install/check fluids.

You are correct about it not being safe, unless you build a sealed box for them and vent it. The other option would be to switch to AGM batteries that are sealed$$$
