Brake connection issues

I have a problem with losing connection to the brakes.

Here is my set-up:

2004 Chevy Trailblazer
2011 Swift 154 BH
Prodigy 2 brake controller

When I connect the pigtail to the Trailblazer, my lights and signals always work, but the brake controller might, or might not. Sometimes it works fine for a while then loses connection (NC on the Prodigy screen). Sometimes, disconnecting and reconnecting fixes it, other times, it doesn't. There have been multiple days of driving where it has worked fine. Sometimes, no matter how I reconnect, wiggle it, blow on the contacts, I can get no connection at all.

I have tried cleaning with a corrosion cleaner, and again once with vinegar. I have inspected the the wiring visually, but have not taken anything apart yet. The last time I had the camper into the service department, I asked them to inspect the pigtail and connections, and they said it was fine. I do not know exactly what they did, though.

I'm looking for any ideas or suggestions.

Well, I got the problem fixed.

I did a ton of reading all over the internet about people who have encountered the same problem, troubleshooting, etc. I couldn't find the source of the problem myself in my driveway, so I went to a local trailer dealer. The guy there hooked up a tester, and we were able to determine that the problem was on the vehicle side of the equation. He hooked up a new Prodigy brake controller, and it showed "NC" too, so the issue was in the wiring.

I went to an auto parts store and bought some electrical contact cleaner for corrosion and sprayed the 7 pin connector really good. No help. I then disconnected and took apart the 7 pin connector and found the culprit! Blue/green corrosion on the trailer brake connector and on the ground connector. This was inside the connector, so no amount of work on the outside would have helped. With the spray cleaner and some scraping, I was able to clean it up really well, and the problem of the 'NC" code was no more!!

What I learned, though, is that this is no simple problem. It could have been a number of things. I'm very fortunate that my fix was a $5.00 bottle of spray cleaner.

I replaced my factory connector with a Hoppy aftermarket connector. One thing you'll want to watch out for also is if you ever have an issue where the trailer's signal and brake lights work intermittently. That's caused by a failed flasher unit. I struggled for weeks trying to figure out what was wrong with mine, that's when I replaced the connector for exactly the same issue you had. I saw corrosion and cleaned it, but still had intermittent light issues.

Good find. Got a simillar set up and had the "NC" pop up at 2 random times but eventually started to work again. i'll be sure to check mine before our next outing.
