Default 12 volt Wiring for Lights and Switches

Hello there - I might buy some on/off switches and wiring to install some small led lights in my outside storage bays. Since my trailer is in off-site storage, my question is, is it safe to assume 16 gauge wiring will work fine in nearly all 12 volt applications for lights etc., and certainly with the exception of direct battery wiring? Thanks in advance for your input!

That would work fine for lights, especially LEDs. They hardly draw any current.

For a handful of LED's, you can go as thin as 20ga. But that stuff is such a pain to work with.
