Electric cable spring thingy

I'm in need of a part to take some of the slack out of the cable that goes from the trailer to the car plug. My cable is a bit long and I've already pinched it between the hitch on the car and the hitch on the trailer. Luckily I only pinched through one wire and part of another so 2 butt splices later, some liquid electrical tape, and electrical tape later it's all fixed. But...I don't want it to happen again. I saw on one person's trailer a vertical spring thingy with a circle on the top that the cable went through and would bend forward if extra cable was needed and remain upright to keep some slack out of the cable. If anyone has any idea where I can find this piece or what the hell it's called, I'd be greatly appreciative!

Try some cable loom to at least keep it from being so easy to pinch. It looks like this but you can pick up a 3-4' piece for just a couple of $.

I used to wrap the cord around the jack once or twice to shorten it up.

I had the same type of problem with my safety chains and now use a bungee cord to pull them up. If there is a need for the chains to do their job the bungee will not stop anything.

You could do the same with a bungee to hold the umbilical away from areas you are concerned about.

I run the power cord through the top of the clip that secures coupler (prevents the coupler from opening). That keeps the cord up and out of the way.

To shorten the chains I twist the chains. Makes them shorter and no extra parts to mess with.

I did the same with my old truck. Worked just fine and didn't cost a penny.
