Adding my hatch for the electrical cord for my second a/c
I am installing a standard hatch. What is the best way to cut the hole? I am thinking a hole saw?Click image for larger version

But before you go crazy with the hole saw, if you have a smooth sided vacumn bonded wall, make a small hole where you want the big hole to be centered. Then probe to the sides with a very stiff piece of wire. You want to make sure not to be sawiing through a aluminum wall frame member with your hole saw. If you find you are too close to an aluminum frame member, you can offset the location of your hole saw cut to clear the frame member.

Maybe a decent stud finder will help?

Good point Tail_gunner. I too would want to know what I might be cutting into.

Better yet, call Jayco with your VIN number and they will gladly send you a pdf print of the trailer sidewall that shows dimensions and locations of the frame members eliminating guesswork.

Good points from all.
I can see behind the wall (xray vision) lol.
Okay no xray vision but i do have access through the cabinets and this will be installed about 10 inches above where my main power cord is. Being it will be inline with that one, i should be okay on not hitting a stud? Thanks

I'm guessing you are thinking of a second pull-out cord like the 30-AMP one you use now to plug into the camp ground 20AMP service pedestal. The hatch you show looks like the pull-out hole version hatch i use on my trailer.

If the second one is going to plug into the 20AMP Service Pedestal at the camp ground you might be better off getting a MALE receptacles on your trailer side to fit a 25-50 foot Standard Extension Cord fitting? On the inside i would install a stand alone 120VAC Receptacle in the area where this 120VAC 20AMP Service will be needed. Knowing me I would probably also install a separate 20AMP Circuit breaker inside the trailer as well for this separate circuit.

Running two pull-out cords from the same compartment will most likely get tangled up with the other cord coming from the same storage cabinet.

I do the same thing with my trailer using the 20AMP Service receptacle at the Cg pedestal. In my case I run the standard HD extension cord directly into the trailer.

I have used this 20AMP service for additional oil filled portable heaters and have on a few occasions brought along a 5K BTU Window Air Conditioner to sit in the second tent bed area to have A/C running from my 2KW Generator when are out on private property somewhere for a couple of weeks stay...

Roy, my plan is to use what i already have. I am soldering a male 30 amp pigtail to a short piece of 10 gauge wire which goes to a separate breaker box housing a 20 amp breaker. That will feed the new a/c. The 30 amp pigtail will connect to a 25 ft 30 amp rv extension cord. That will be connected to the pedestal in the 50amp connection
using a standard adapter. At the new hatch i will be installing i will just pull out the male end( trailer side) and attach to line coming from pedestal then tuck it back in and close hatch. I know it sounds over kill but i have these items already. The rv shop sells a 20 amp receptacle like you showed but it just looked cheesy and the heavy duty ones like you have pictured are 50.00$ i would then have to buy a cord which is another cost.
My idea is probably a little more labor but a whole lot cheaper. I need cheaper right now with raising 3 teenagers that eat me out of house and home. Lol
Thank you hope i explained right.
