EMS-PT50C To The Rescue
I am at my home base and connected to utility power, but at 3:15am this morning the power went off inside my 5'er. I walked outside and looked at my EMS-PT50C and it showed 131v on leg 1 and 133v on leg 2. I shut off the breaker just to be safe and called the power company. Their guy just left and he found a bad transformer that serves approximately 8 homes in this area besides me. They have a crew coming out in a few to replace the transformer.
I'm sure none of my neighbors had any indications of a problem.

I will not hook up to shore power without my surge guard... better safe than sorry

Yeah, 110%. A surge guard is one of those things you will never know if you need, if you use it. If you don't use one you may wish you had.

Hey gl,
Similar to ed above I have a Progressive Industries EMS-PT30C. It's 30amp and plugs into the pole (I think ed's is a 50amp). We've owned our 30B for a little over 2 years now so we're still what I consider to be newbies at this. I bought the Progressive after reading several positive reviews on this forum. Kinda wish it was a "built-in" model so I'd know it wouldn't ever wander off and get lost, but we're good so far. Bought it right after we got the TT and I always use if so I can't say that I absolutely "need" it but it's one less thing to keep me awake at night.

Mine is a pole mounted unit also ... but I opened up where the power comes into the RV added 2 plugs (male female) and now have it wired inside.. if I sell the RV I can then unplug it and take it with me...

That's a good idea. I think I'd go that route if we were planning to keep the TT a bit longer but we're planning to upgrade to a 5th this spring and it will be 50amp. If I sell it to a relative/friend it will to with the TT but if I trade it in I'll keep it.
