fresh water hose

I am new to this whole RV thing and just ordered my Jayco x17z and will take delivery in a month or so as soon as the snow is gone. I was just looking at what Walmart has listed on their website for RVs and saw fresh water hoses. Are these any different from regular lawn hose?

Yes, that way you will know which hose to use for your drinking water. I recommend a pressure regulator since the water pressure at some campground could cause a leak in your system. I also use a water filter. That way I know I feel sure the drinking water is good.

RV fresh water hoses are white and the water will not have that hose taste.

I don't recommend you buy a fresh water RV hose at Walmart. I've bought two hoses there, and both had problems leaking at the fittings. It wasn't that the "O" rings weren't sealing, but the connectors themselves leaked.

And one of those hoses had to be thrown away after using it for only a few months. The outer layer of the hose separated last time I used it, making the hose blow up like a balloon.

If you do get one at Walmart, save your receipt just in case you have to take it back. Camping World might have better quality fresh water hoses than Walmart.

Wow! They just don't make things like they used to. I've got a 50' fresh water hose that I've been using since I bought it back in 1987.

When we bought our new Jayco in Feb this year there was a box in the storage compartment that had a sewer hose and fittings, water hose, a pressure regulator and the power cord. It came with the trailer.

I totally agree with the WallMart hose comment. I bought one a year ago and the metal part just twisted apart when I tried to tighten it. I wasn't using pliers, just my hands.

I have had several fresh water hoses from Walmart. All failed within a year. They are junk.

Thumbs up

Thanks for all the info. I was not planing on buying it from Walmart but just checking on what they carry for RV's and just noticed the water hose and the only question was if they are made different than a lawn hose. Thanks for letting me know one comes with my trailer so I will not worry about it at this time.

In 1987 your hose is most likely made in the USA

I recently read somewhere (possibly on the Escapees threads) that garden hoses are typically made from recycled material and may include small levels of lead. The white potable water hoses are constructed with new material and are lead free...

One came with my trailer and I bought another one from Camping World in case I needed extra length. So far so good.

ACE Hardware has good hoses. Not all ACE stores have RV supplies however.

There is considerable misinformation in this thread about the color of water hoses and Walmart.

Most, but not all, potable fresh water drinking hoses are white.

Camco produces a Premium Water Hose that is not white and is available at some Walmart stores.

The heavy-duty reinforced 5/8-inch ID drinking water hoses are 20 percent thicker than standard hoses. It's anti-kink design features machined fittings and strain-relief ends for added durability. The hoses are available in 10-, 25-, 35- and 50-foot lengths. They are drinking water safe.

I purchased a 35' Camco Premium TastePure Water-hose from Walmart for less than $25. It appears to be a high quality product. Time will tell. I purchased it to replace a white 50' 5/8" water hose I purchased in the mid 1980's. I used it at that time for tropical fish tank maintenance. Since 1999 it has been used with my RV's. It is still functional. If the Camco lasts as long, it will be the last hose I have to buy.

All I know is that the "food grade" white hose from Menards (Made in USA) makes the water taste like plastic smells and the green garden hose in my yard that's 20 years old imparts no taste to the water at all.

I too am a newbie...bought my first water hose(s) in the past month. Although I didn't buy them from Walmart, I did buy the same hose they sell there (they were actually cheaper on Amazon). I bought one each of the Camco's. One of the premiums and one of the regular duty in case I am short.

Besides Drfife, is everyone disparaging the Camco product...or some other Walmart hose? Should I consider upgrading?

They probably were not commenting on Camco's Premium hose. Camco introduced it after most of the posts in this thread. It's a reasonably new product.
