Hitch Wiring Question Trailer Battery Not getting charge

I have a new to me 2008 Jayco Feather Light 29D. First trip out last October, everything works just fine except Truck did not charge trailer battery. So I check it out on a Silverado Site and found out I needed a 40 amp J fuse, got one from dealer plug it in, now I have 14 Volts with motor running at trailer plug on rear of truck. So with motor still running I check trailer battery and it is not getting the 14 Volts from truck. I take a look at the trailer female end of plug and found plug does not have a metal insert to make contact with the truck male end post Red Wire for charging trailer battery. Question did this come this way from the factory and do I just put a new plug on trailer wiring harness.

Thanks
Dave

Interesting. I made the connection in the under hood fuse block you mention. Confirmed voltage at the trucks 7way, but never checked that current was actually reaching the battery, nor have I looked into the trailer connection to ensure there are contacts.

That said, after 2 seasons with our TT I have no reason to think that current isn't reaching the battery. IMO you have a bad connector on the TT and should replace it.

Thanks, that what I thinking. There better be 7 wires in the trailer connector.

Since you are not the original owner - I would be careful reconnecting anything that's "missing". Assuming you have a tester, I would check that wire for a short.

I replaced the 7 Wire connector on camper. All is good now, battery now charging when truck motor is running.
Thanks for advice
