Holding tanks stinking you out?

You may think it is the black water tank that is causing the problem. Probably not so. In most cases (I have never seen one that was not) the black water tank is vented through the roof.

However, in the case of the grey water tank it is likely to be vented right under the sink using an air admittance valve. And likely it is an el-cheapo. The ones in my trailer were of that type. Air could EASILY pass the valve the wrong way allowing grey water tank fumes to enter the camper.

I have replaced both of mine with Studor Mini-Vent Air Admittance Valves. I found them at Lowe's. They were not inexpensive. I paid $25.99 each for them. But NO MORE STINK!

I add chemical to my gray water tanks to combat the odors that can come from them. About 1/3 to 1/2 the amount you usually add to the black water tank should take of the odors since you aren't breaking down a lot of solids.
