"home made" satellite TV watching?

Is it possible to use a residential DishNetwork dish, and one of my home receivers, rig up a tripod stand, and take it on the road?

It would certainly be very simple to do....so therefore I'm guessing it won't work

Any input?

It's done all the time. The only problem at times is aiming the dish..

I understand there is a tool you can buy to help aim the unit.

This is the "cats meow" when it comes to aiming a satellite dish.

The old manual method was state of the art just a few years back. Now even a dummy like me can set it on the ground and by the time you are back inside it is dialed in automatically.

We have Direct at home and have just decided tv is not worth what it would cost to have it as a option.

There are smartphone apps that can help with the aiming if the dish. Combine that with the level app, and you have it all in the palm if your hand.

If you are in a tree'd area this definitely lets you find the "hole" in the branches to get your sat to work.
