hot water heater flushing

i wonder how many people flush their hot water heater after draining? my last fifth wheel had approx 1/4" of grit on the bottom of tank when traded in . i always drain it if not in use for 2 weeks or more , but never did flush out as part of that process . i think going forward i will try flushing after draining . anyone doing this ? if so , how , and what do you use to get inside of tank?

The only time I flush the hot water tank is when I winterize the unit. Here is what I do - turn city water off, remove hot water tank drain plug, turn city water on and let flush for a couple of minutes.

We have an Atwood Wh and I flush at least twice a year. You wouldn't believe how many lime "chips" come out. I think the electric side might last a little longer with a cleaner tank.

I flush my WH twice a year. Once in the fall as part of my winterizing procedure (no antifreeze, just a good rinse), I just fill the tank with fresh water, then remove the plug and run tap water through the tank for a while. Then in the spring after I do my initial flush to remove any antifreeze, I then fill all the lines and tanks with bleach water and let it sit over night. Then the next day I drain the tank, bypass the WH and flush the main lines. Once the lines are flushed I open the drain plug again and open the bypass to flush the water heater.

I have been draining and flushing mine. Wash it out with a curved plastic wand from any Rv supply.
