How I know how much fresh water I'm going to haul

Thought I'd share a tool I use to gauge how much fresh water I'm going to haul with me to my campsite. I put it on my hose just before my fill tube Click image for larger version

I fill a bucket and time how long it takes. Then I can fairly accurately gauge how much water I put in. I only carry 10 - 15 gallons. Works for me fairly well.

Hmmm.... I've always traveled either empty, full, or with no more than 5-gallons of water.... Full or empty, the water can't "slosh", at only 5-gallons the slosh won't be much. If I have to take an evasive move with more than 5-gallons, at 8.2 lbs per gallon, that could be a lot of weight suddenly shifting, and potentially causing a problem.

For me it is simple. Fill the FWT until there is a steady stream from the overflows. Turn off the water supply and close the valves. Enjoy the trip. When I get home I will drain whatever is left.

My fresh water tank is up front so I try not to travel with more water than I need. I also use it if/when I add water to the tank when I arrive at the park.

I travel with a few gallon jugs and a 5 gallon container of water inside the TT. I don't like to travel with a partially filled FW tank- causes too much side to side force from water sloshing around IMHO.

Thanks. I've been wondering about a cheap meter meter too.

I've always done the same method as was mentioned: stopwatch method based on a 5 gallon pail fill.

Of course, either method is only effective if you're starting with an empty tank.

I wish I had a manometer style indicator tube. Then there would be zero doubt!
