Jayco Eagle Battery Type

Hi All,

I recently purchased a 2003 Jayco Eagle second hand, and was intending on using it mostly on powered sites. However other friends of ours have encouraged to camping in October this year on an unpowered site.

Still learning the ropes on the AH useage but I'm wondering if anybody knows what type of battery was installed in this model van from the factory.

I believe its a deep cycle battery but I don't know if its a standard 100AH.

Also does anybody now how many days I could run this battery for. Will only be using it mainly for the lights - fridge will be run off gas. Looking at staying 5 days

Any advise would be appreciated.

Regards

Keep in mind that in addition to your lights, the refrigerator controls (and maybe also the water heater controls), the heater blower motor and controls, the water pump and the propane leak detector run on DC. I'm assuming that your trailer has one group 24 or 27 12 volt battery. My guess is that such a battery would last a couple of days at best. If you use your lights or heater (the blower motor is somewhat power hungry) very much, maybe even less. Would you have access to a generator to recharge your battery? Is your battery in good condition - will it take and hold a full charge?

I never asume to know anyones budget but you might also want to look into a solar charger for that length of stay.
I just got my Jaco and I'm still in discovery mode but the trailers I have owned in the past were wired to take a charge off the truck while traveling.I have charged them by running the truck a bit each day when off the grid.

You most likely have two group 24 batteries. Hopefully they are deep cycle batteries, they hold a charge a lot longer than an automotive battery. As mentioned you could plug into your truck and let it idle for a while each day to help keep them charged.

I keep my trailer at a storage lot. The few times I needed to put on a charge I used jumper cables direct from the truck battery to the trailer battery. This will charge the trailer battery much quicker. At first I was questioning whether charging this way could damage anything on the trailer but did not have any problems.
