Keeping the toilet seal wet?

In this hot Texas sun, I'm having trouble keeping water in the toilet while the trailer is in storage. I would like to make sure the seal stays wet between uses to extend its life as long as possible, but the water evaporates pretty quickly.

I thought about using the pink stuff hoping it doesn't evaporate as quickly. Also, I could just visit the trailer more often. Admittedly, I didn't visit it for the entire month + it was in storage this time, but sometimes I'm not going to be able to make it out there, and I don't want that seal to dry up...

Ideas?

We had that issue last summer, due to an unusually hot summer for our area. Our camper is right outside so I just checked it every few days. With your's in storage that complicates things. I wonder if there is some type of an o-ring lube that can be used?

I think your best bet is the RV anti-freeze and then cover the toilet with clear plastic food wrap pulled tight.

I was thinking about using plastic wrap, so far, I think that's the best solution... DW just says we should make sure there's plenty of water in there before we leave it, but I'm not sure even a complete toilet full will last more than a month in this heat...

What about oil? I read somewhere to use vegetable oil to condition the seal. I used it and it worked pretty well, what if I just put a little oil in there every time we store it?

I misread the OP's title at first and had to laugh.

I was asking myself "now why would anyone want to keep the toilet SEAT wet??" Lol.

At work we have some floor drains that constantly dry out and let sewer gas into the building. We fill the trap with water then dump a tablespoon or two of vegetable oil down the drain. The oil floats on the water and forms a layer that prevents the water from evaporating.

It looks like vegetable oil, olive oil or pledge furniture Polish is what people are using to keep the seal in working order.

I had that moment after I posted it. I skimmed it over and my heart jumped and I went "oh s#!t, did I just put 'seat' in that title?!" Had to go back over and look more closely, and went "whew, that would have been something!"

I think I'm going to try a little oil in with the water and we'll see how that goes. I sure would hate to forget to take off the plastic wrap before DW's first "pit" stop!! I'd get the silent treatment for sure!!!

I think keeping the toilet seat wet is a good idea because that Texas sun will heat that seat to God knows what temp and he can make it as hot as Hell if he wants to. I would never want to have to explain a burnt red ring around my butt in the emergency room where everyone can hear you. My tool kit now contains a Texas Sprayer.

Johnson Pledge Lemon Fresh furniture spray was recommend for our cottage compost toilet ring seal ( same as RV toilet seals) to maintain a moist smooth operating seal.
This works for us in both rv and cottage toilets keeping a tight seal. We use this maybe once every other season. This product is similar to another product used for same but not available now.

Now do you dry that seal first before you spray or just open and spray.

You can dump in a quart or so of water and then use Press and Seal plastic wrap to keep it from evaporating.

Think I'll do the plastic wrap plain and simple.
