leak in kitchen sink

Hello all. I am fairly new to the whole rv repairs. I found a leak near the gasket in kitchen sink. Normally I would break out the plumbers putty and reseal it, but I only noticed a gasket or washer where the sink and the pipe meet. Can I use the plumbers putty or just replace the gasket? Thank you.

Check to see if the gasket is seated properly. Then retighten and check all other plumbing connections to see if they can be tightened further.

Our kitchen sink plumbing came apart this summer (with no prior leaks noticed in 5 years of ownership). I am pretty sure all the vibration from travel loosened those connections. Now I make a habit of just checking them from time to time to make sure they are all still snug.

Must be a reason the mfr does not use putty. If you can't just tighten it, I would go with the gasket. IMHO

No. it is 13 years old.

I think that is what happened. We just got back from a short trip. Started leaking, but I forgot my tools. I am going to do what you said and tighten everything up. Thanks.

First of all try tightening it up for sure as they do get loose over time. More than likely thats all it will need but I would only use putty on the top side if you are having to re seal it. If the gasket is rotten on the underside, get a new gasket. Most strainers are set up so that the thick gasket underneath sits in a groove.
