Learned something new and I have a Q
Was at the storage lot Sunday afternoon doing some maintenance and struck up a conversation with a guy doing the same to his 5th.
Told me he'd had birds building a nest in his pin-box. The open back was just begging the sparrows to nest there. He fills the opening with sections of swimming pool noodle - kind of a log cabin effect.
Got me to thinking. Anybody know a source for the plastic that covers the belly? I'd describe it as a black plastic version of corrugated cardboard. I'm thinking that and some industrial Velcro might do a good job of closing those openings off.

I filled mine with some discarded foam packing material. So far the nests have not been built.

The Crab gets today's cigar! When I saw the name it hit me that's the stuff the little garage sale signs are printed on. Found lots of hits when I googled. Home Depot carries it in opaque.
Thanks!
3 and nort, you guys have excellent ideas also.
Presently I roll the power cord and break away lanyard and poke them in the space. Gotta figure out how to deal with all that. It's a convenient place and I'm thinking that the COROPLAST (thanks again Crab) could be removable via some velcro and I could continue to use it. Found several sources for some black "plast" and it's not very $$ so I'm gonna search for some and see what I can make happen.

We were camped at James Island last year and in 3 nights a bird nested and layed an egg in the pin box. When I went to pull out the electrical cord to hook up it scared the bejyses out of me, thought it was an animal of some sort when it flew at me. Had to remove the nest with the egg in it and put it in the bushes beside the campsite.

We found a nest full of eggs in ours upon Arriving at a CG. They made the trip with us from home.
Sad but the parents missed the departure.

I too have the same problem with the birds.... When you have birds you may also have snakes.
The COROPLAST sections sounds like a great idea to me...
