Living room slide motor replaced...

So, the other day I received my three replacement slide motors (the fourth slide in the master bedroom is a different gear/motor set-up) from Jayco. This was in response to a warranty issue dealing with my living room slide being stuck open and would not retract even with the 9V battery procedure as stated in the owner's manual. Jayco wanted to swap out all three of the OEM motors; even though only the larger living room slides had been failing.

A proactive approach and one that I agreed with - until today... What a PIA! But, I managed to replace the living room slide motor without cutting anything with a blowtorch

Keep in mind that the LR slide motor is next to the axles = not much room to work in. The biggest issue was removing and reinstalling the bars that connect to the cogs that move the slide. When the shear pins are installed, they seat themselves and the bar and slide pins compress and form around each other (by the way, I had plenty of pictures, but, my wife thinks the camera formatted the card). Using a larger screwdriver and rubber mallet, I was able to get them off to pull the OEM motor. The replacement unit was just as difficult to get on due to the compressed bar.

I will say that the replacement motors sound better than the OEM (made in China); let's hope they last longer. Tomorrow I tackle the rear slides. Already prepped them - lots more room to work in!

Now we know who to call on if we have slide motor trouble. You will be an old pro after switching out 3 slide motors! The motor on my slide says MTEC on it. So far so good. -Lee

Shin pond hunter, could you put your trailer in your sig so we can see what you have. You are a brave person taking on the slides.

That is a lot better. Now I don't have to try and remember what you have. I have a small problem with CRS.

I know what you mean. I spend more time looking for things than anything else. CRS is a major pro----

SPH... I may be missing some backstory here, but if you have a 2011, why are you not leveraging your warranty? Or is there something missing I should know Pronto?

Good question. I have a dual slide 2010 32BHDS with the enclosed under belly. I hope I donot need to change out the slide motors.

It should still be covered under the 2 year bumper to bumper warranty

Well one year is now only left on the warranty. We have opened and closed the slides at least a hundred times so far and all is working fine. My concern is next year if it fails, and it is the defective made in China type that others are having problems with, and it is after my warranty then I will be on the hook for the parts and labor.

Maybe I should call Jayco and ask them if it is a recall type situation?

If anyone talks to Jayco and it's determined to be a recall please do let us know.

9 months in the shop. Doesn't that extend your warranty for 9 more months?

Research the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.
It is a federal law regarding warranties.
