New Battery Needed

I have a 26RLS with one battery. It came with a Deka Marine Master, DP24, 550 CCA, and 23 Amp. It lasted for four years.

Should I replace with the same battery or go with something different?

Do you do any dry-camping?
Overnight stops without shore power?
Always camp at CG's with shore power?

As mentioned it depends. If all you do is full hook up camping you want to make sure you have a good battery but it doesn't make a lot of sense to go with a big multi battery setup as you are adding weight for capacity you will never use.

If you dry camp then it might be worth it but if you are lugging around a generator and running for a while every day then you are back to almost camping with hookups.

I fall into the latter of the categories, we dry camp but I would rather use that weight for a generator and fuel than more batteries once I really thought about how we camp.

We have only dry camped one time in four years.

Is there a better battery than the Deka and what specs would you recommend?

I have the same battery that came with my unit from the dealer. I know I do not need the 6 batteries that will fit at this time, but I would like at least 1 more. I have had a few times when the one seems to struggle when using the auto-level and bringing out the slides.

Since dry-camping is not an issue for your battery, I would recommend that you just purchase an Interstate Marine/RV battery (or equivalent entry level battery). The basic battery is about 85Ah and is more than enough for you, based on your requirements. Just check your water levels regularly and make sure that your battery connections are clean.

Pick up an expensive Digital Battery Voltage Display just to keep an eye on your battery. Something like the one below.

Since you rarely dry camp (but have) you might consider moving up to the slightly large 27 series. A few bucks more but gives that edge when you are so exhausted you just want to pull over and stop.

We have one and have used it a couple of times last year at casino and at a park that was out of sites and let us park in the tent section with no juice.
