New camper owner, quick question on battery hook up

Just joined and have probably a stupid question that I need answered and probably will have more on and off on here, as we are new to having a camper. My question is we bought a 2015 Jayco Swift SLX 185RB camper. Only used it once last year and are getting ready to use it this weekend. We did all the winterizing last fall , but now can't remember if on the battery box when you put your battery in there is a spot there for the 30 amp fuse . So do you put the fuse in the same time as the battery as you hooked up and are hauling the camper or do you just have the fuse in while you are stopped and set up for camping and your vehicle is not hooked up because as you are driving your truck is also helping charge your battery up too, right ? Hope that rambling all made sense as the owner book they give you is worthless to giving you step by step instructions for our model

Welcome!!!

You would want the fuse in so the truck can charge the battery while towing, if I understood correctly!

Congrats on the new camper and welcome to the forum! This is a great place with lots of knowledgeable folks.

Your battery set up is the same as on my 195RB. After installing the battery then install the 30amp blade-style fuse which should be just a few inches down the positive cable from the battery. On my unit this cable is green.

I don't normally remove this fuse as we store our camper at home and it's always plugged in to shore power there. If you have to store it off-site without access to shore power that's when I'd pull the fuse to avoid having it run dead. Otherwise no need to remove it.

Thank you guys . We took it out last fall because we pulled the battery too and brought it in where it wouldn't freeze up on us. So really we could leave it in all the time then and not worry about it ? Because if the battery is out it's not gonna matter anyway.

We also plugged the camper in a few times at home here just so we could turn the lights on and check everything over the winter . But never put the battery or fuse in to do any of that

Congratulations on your Jayco swift and welcome to the forum.

I just remove the negative battery cable from the battery when/if I need to store the trailer for long periods so no need to pull a fuse.
