No tail lights

2009 Insignia

Go a call from a trucker in PA that I had no tail lights. Stop and turn worked. Towed vehicle worked. Clearance and tail not. Next morning I tried them and they worked. This was several months ago. Today I went out and tried them and nothing. Head, side, front marker. Everything but tail and rear clearance. Where do I start?

The first thing I would do would be to clean the connections on both the receiver plug on the trailer and the 7 pins on the TV. Use either a small file or a small piece of sandpaper to clean corrosion and dirt off the connections.

Yep it was the 8 pin plug. Yes 8 pin. Had to cut it out and splice the wires. Wasn't as bad as I thought. Thanks again.

Meeker is right on ..... when mine stopped working I sprayed both ends with disk brake cleaner... worked like a charm... just make sure you let it fully dry before plugging it in

We've had this happen more than just once. With our severe winters and road salt in MN, the contacts on the pickup truck can get pretty bad.

So every spring when I get the TT out of storage and de-winterize, I spray electrical contact cleaner onto the plug contacts on the pickup and the trailer. Seems to do the trick.
