Norcold too cold. Freezing items in the refrigerator.

Our Norcold N811 is running too cold. Items in the refrigerator compartment (soda, eggs, etc.) are freezing. The temperature selector is set on the lowest setting (1), The outside temps are in the low 80s. Makes no difference if the system is on AC or Gas. I do not have any flashing codes.

The freezer is stuffed full of frozen goods. Not sure if the sensors read the freezer temp or the frig temp. I have also noticed that the system does not seem to be defrosting the coils in the refrigerator compartment. When I first noticed the problem, the coils were a solid block of frost/ice. I shut the unit down until the ice was gone. Can anyone tell me where the temperature sensor is located? Can anyone give me some ideas to trouble shoot this?

I don't know exactly how to get to it, but if you are good at tinkering you can find it once you start taking things apart. Here is the thermistor that is probably bad that you can replace. Should fix your issue.

Norcold Thermistor Assembly 618548 (fits all N6/ N8 models)

Norcold Thermistor Assembly (618548)

This component senses the temperature inside your refrigerator compartment. It tells the refrigerator to turn on or off in order to reach the desired temperature.

Works with the N611, N621, N641, N811, N821, N841 and the 2117.

Any numbers or letters after the model numbers are not important for this part. The thermistor has a 4 prong connector that will snap into the light fixture located up at the light bracket.

** The other end clips to the 10th fin from the right hand side. **

Make sure the thermistor is clipped to the fin.

Before you order that check the cooling fins in the back of the fridge.. there is a probe on them.. move that probe DOWN which should warm up the fridge a bit.. I bet it got bumped at some point..

The on/off relay on my N841's circuit board became stuck in the on position and froze everything like you described. I was able to find a new relay to replace the defective one, which saved me the cost of replacing the entire board. This might not be what's causing your problem, but I present it as another possibility to explore if the other suggestions offered so far don't pan out.

Here's a picture of what it looked like on the circuit board.

Just received the ther. sensor in the mail from Amazon. Will install it in the morning & let you guys know how I make out. Was only $13 with free shipping. Feeling fortunate that is too cold and not too war. This way I just turn it off until the temp comes above freezing. Would be a much more difficult if it was not cooling.

From one who's experienced it both ways...

Yes, it is more difficult when it's not cooling. I had to throw away all my perishables by the time I realized I had no refrigeration and then use a cooler until I could have it repaired.

The link to the thermistor is broken. Norcoldparts.com moved to a new website, TheNorcoldGuy.com. Here you go:
