Octane SL 222 axle rating

Looking at this 222 i am confused by the axle sticker. Am i reading it right?

Says GVWR 8000 lbs
But each axle is only rated 3500 lbs so 7000 combined right?

I have seen 3500, 4400, and 5200. This is a new leftover unit and i wonder if Jayco would change the axles on it. Maybe i can get a good deal on it.

Maybe it is a typo??? Otherwise, you are reading it correctly.

What I found when we were shopping is some manufactures are doing is adding the dry tw to the total axle rating for a higher gvwr, but using a slightly lower axle rating. The Coachmen Catilina (think that was the model) comparable of our 32 BHDS had 2-4400lb axles, but a 95xxlb gvwr if I remember right (was right around there). Yes, the tw is carried by the vehicle, but I have would rather have more axle under the tt than being "just enough".

Any idea what the brand new models have for axles or the gvwr is? Try contacting Jayco with that vin and see what they have to say.

Good luck!!!

Is that leftover close to you? If so, crawl under it and check the stickers on the axles. Our 32 has a "Jayco" rating of 5000lbs, but 5200lb axles, and a 9975lb gvwr (think that's the gvwr).

Could be a typo, but if so you could try to use it to your advantage for a deal. Lol

Good luck!

I would expect a TT's GVWR to be the sum of the axle load and TW ( the "G" is for gross).
13% of 8000# is 1040#, so roughly 1000# TW and 7000# on the axles at max weight.

Yeah i could see that and really i will most likely never max it out. But all the other ones i have seen have bigger axles.

This is pretty standard on all trailers including semi trailers, not just rv's. The axles are sized for gvwr less tongue or pin weight.

A lot of toy haulers don't leave much cargo capacity for actually hauling toys
