Power Awning Tie-down
Has anyone got a solution for tying down the new-fangled power awnings? I don't want to roll it up every time it's windy, specially when it's rainin' - want to keep my stuff dry ya' know! (Didn't like it when we bought the rig but it was already attached...)

I have seen too many manual awnings wrapped up and over their trailer to try to tie down anything. I just roll mine up every time I leave my site or if I see a storm coming. I host and with this park having 176 campsites I have seen many awnings destroyed. Some screwed to the ground, others with 5 gallon buckets of water attached and one with 5 gallon buckets of cement attached. None survived the wind that hit them.
Besides, if I bring my awning in so often I don't leave much outside which keeps my site nice and tidy looking.

Thanks, Joe. Clean design. Allows you to put some tension on the straps, eh! I'm headed to the Depot for parts! (Need to take a few measurements first.) By the way - Love the U.P. I may be a troll (from below the bridge) but I get it!

Is the top piece attached or just resting on the awning? I really like the concept but would a bungee type cord work to help relieve stress?

I did something similar to Timberghost Only I used trucker jackpoles. The kind used to keep loads in place.. I cannot post the pic because it is on another thread and we can only post them once on here..

Hey, Seann. How about a link to that thread with the pic. I did a search for "trucker jackpole" and came up empty. Are they light in weight?

I wonder if a painters extendable pole would work?

Try a search for tent poles, there's tons of them.

We were at a state park last year when in the middle of the day a storm came through. Straight line winds like I have never seen. Awnings were lost all over the park. The people next to us were tied down and gone for the day but they lost the awning and hardware and some bits and pieces of the trailer and roof. I walked the park after it went by and it looked like a bomb went off. The tent area was flat and the trees were full of tents. Lasted 15 minutes and gone.
I suggest you use the tie down method for when you are around and roll it up when you leave.

I would agree with eldermike about rolling it up when you leave the area, i have lost a couple of awnings in my day . Especialley here in texas we deal the low pressure coming from the gulf meeting with those systems coming from the north

Camper1 it is not attached. The saddle is the perfect size for the awning tube to just sit in the saddle. I would not use bunggie cords because it will have too much play in a wind and lift your awning enough for poles to fall out and then you are as good as not having anything.
Jackpoles I am sure work just the same.
When I sinch it down I can push up and down on the awning tube and it doesn't move. And with the hose clamp for adjusting it I can adjust to any height I want.

You can tie down the awning arms all you want but in a big wind the fabric will still flap away and could tear.
Just roll up the awning when storm approaching or if you leave the rig for a period of time.
