power jacks

We are thinking of getting a Husky Brute 4500. Has any one had one? We would like any thoughts on power jacks please.

Not sure about that particular brand but this poll/discussion may help some:

We have a Husky Brute 4500 with the remotes. Purchased it last year and it works well. Only thing that is odd is that to me the switch is backwards. You push the switch up and the jack goes down and if you push the switch down the jack goes up. The engineers thought process is that you push the switch in the direction that you want the tongue of the trailer to go. So push it up, the jack extends raising the tongue. Took a bit to get used to. Remotes are nice, allows you to connect up without even getting out of the truck. Downside with the remotes is there is a slight battery drain, so if you boondock, make sure you install a shutoff switch between the battery and the jack to prevent the extra draw on the battery. Overall it's a nice jack, I got a good price through Amazon.

DW still has trouble with ours,

All I can say is that once you go with a power jack, you'll never go back. I've dealt with plenty of manual jacks, and if I ever get into a trailer without power, it will be my first "mod". If for no other reason, it will help you load and unload the spring bars on your WDH.

As already mentioned, the bigger the better.

On my previous trailer (1994 Jayco J-series 3250FK) I installed the Husky Brute 4500 (bought from Amazon for around $210). It's an awesome jack and very well made....lots of nice features (like 1 front light illuminating the ball area and 2 rear lights illuminating the WDH bar hookup area -- also has a built-in plug holder with rain cover to hold your 7-pin plug). One note on the plug holder - it does stick out the back of the jack about 2-3 inches, so it may interfere with your LP Tank cover (if you have one) depending on how close your tanks are to the jack....I had to remove my plastic tank cover to install the Husky (does not interfere with the regulator, just the tank cover). The jack has lots of power and very smooth operation (I believe it has ball-bearings on the inside) and automatically "slows down" the motor as you approach the upper/lower stop limits. Great Jack overall (I took it off the old trailer when we traded it in and gave it to a friend who loves it also).

Unfortunately, my new trailer (2013 Eagle 314BDS) came with an "Atwood 3500" electronic jack which is not quite up to par with the quality of the Husky. The Atwood struggles a little to lift my new trailer (1200# TW) and doesn't have the same "slow down" feature -- it just runs full speed until you hit the upper limits. The Atwood also does not have any lights or the plug holder (I miss that). When the Atwood fails, I will definitely replace it with a Husky 4500.
