Propane tank recertification

I went to fill a tank last week. I went to a Love's nearby where I live. The tank is a 5 year old tank for my grill. The person filling the tank got snarky and said she'd fill it but they expire after 5 years. Huh? I thought it was 12, and re-certified tanks were 5? I looked at the tanks on my trailer and those specifically say after 10 years. I looked online and AmeriGas's web site says 12 years, 5 years for re-certified.

What's the deal? Is Love's pulling some non-sense to get people to buy overpriced tank swaps?

Where can I find reliable information to validate what I see on AmeriGas's site? I've searched online to no end and can't find what the law actually states.

My local propane supplier ( a locally own private small business) told me that my tanks are good for 12 years after the initial date. I normally fill there, so that's what I am going with.

Perfect! I knew someone here would have the answer! Thanks!

EDIT: I'll have to check the tanks on the trailer to see where they were made. It appears that 10 years may be for Canada.

Uneducated minimal paid service worker, having a bad day and does not care about their job. My tanks say right on them how long the certification is good for.

Where I fill my tanks, have not checked the date codes in at least 5 years on any tank I have brought in. I did just recertify my 11 pound tank. They applied a sticker to the inside of the handle/guard with the new date, not on the outside, nor was it engraved. Having it filled and certified cost me $6, the tank was empty when I brought it in. I believe that was a good deal!
