Question about brake controller

Hey All...

I just purchased a Jayfeather X23B recently. The dealer installed a brake controller, the Curt Venturer model. I was not pleased with the jerkiness of the braking, even after trying to adjust it. I do have a "heavy" braking foot. After doing some reading, I am interested in the Prodigy P3 controller.

Now for my question: Since the dealer did the wiring, will the plug be compatible with the Prodigy?

I`m not sure but you will probably have to buy the P3 vehicle specific wiring harness. The good news is they are not that expensive and simply plug into many late model vehicles.

I do not think they make things that simple for us. I know my first Brake controller was a Hopkins and the harness from that did not fit the P3.

Have you looked to see if there are any adjustments you can make. On mine (not sure what make or model). I have two buttons to increase/decrease the sensitivity, and another button to manually engage the trailer brakes. With my TV/TT combination my sensitivity setting is 55 (I assume percent).

I also would recommend changing your driving style. When the trailer is hooked, I drive like I have very limited brakes and give myself LOTS of room to stop along with taking my foot of the throttle early and coast. Along with tapping the brakes early, to start slowing down and let the vehicles behind me know that I am planning to stop.

Toss the Curt Venturer in the trash. It's a cheap time delay controller. Do the next guy a favor and don't sell it or give it to a friend.

The Prodigy would be an excellent choice.
