Question about draining Fresh Water Tank...

Newbie here. We just purchased a 2013 Jay Series Sport 10FD. So Far we've been very happy with it, although when I try to drain all the water, I notice there is about an inch of water that remains. Even though we don't usually drink the water from the faucet, I would still to completely drain the tank after each trip. Thanks for your help.

How do know about the 1inch? I can't see my tank but never have been concerned about it. I would think sanitizing the tank might calm your concerns.
I think the way the drain is mounted may preclude every drop from draining it.

When I remove the storage lid to look down at compartment where water pump and FW tank are, you can see the water line through the plastic. How often do you sanitize? I've seen the Clorox method referenced on here, is that what is recommended?

If you cant get all the water out, you may want to flush the fresh tank each time you take it out. Some water (well water, etc) can get kind of funky after sitting for long periods. I'd think if you rotated the fresh water throughout the year in addition to sanitizing annually you'd avoid stank water.

Also towing the trailer while draining could help get some of that water below the drain moving around and help it escape the tank....?

I always open our low point drain at camp and let the majority of the left over water drain out and leave the valve open for the trip home to let any little bit of left over water sitting in the tank find its way out.

I read some states its against the law to have water, even clean, to drain while driving. That being said, I do it all the time..

I don't think you can ever completely empty the freshwater tank. We drink the water from the tank all the time. The water is filtered when we put it in the tank and it is filtered again underneath the kitchen sink. I sanitize the tank in the spring before we use it and again any time the water begins to pick up a foul taste or smell. I have been doing this for over 30 years and have never had a problem with getting sick or anything like that.

I have read that the EPA regulations prohibit any kind of liquids from coming from your camper while you are driving down the road, whether it is freshwater or other kinds of liquids.

Really? Do you happen to know which states? I did it last weekend in Michigan and didn't have any problems (or I didn't get caught at least). But I only have 12 gallons and it drains pretty fast, within an hour or so.

Hmm, then were can you drain it? It is safer for the environment to drain it at the campground or at home?

To drain all the water out .. On the opposite side from the drain plug put a few 2x10's under the wheel.. this will lift that side of the RV and allow the water to drain out..

My manual states that when draining the fresh water tank, there will always be a small amount left over in the tank... Not a big issue..
