Eric,

Thanks for your offer...., I'll wait and see if Reese responds to my e-mail by the end of the week, then I may give them a call.

My need isn't urgent, I'm more curious about reviewing the updated version (REV "K") and see if there are any other changes to the text that may influence any future set-up/adjustment recommendations I make to others.

Bob

I would also like to see a copy of the latest instructions. I have the silver version and was about to install it today. My instructions date to Feb. 2010 and measure from the middle of the coupler , straight back along the frame tube 20". I do understand what they're after and will make sure I have it right. Interesting how the instructions differ. Mine specifically say not to measure on an angle and want you to have the cam a half inch out of the "V" when not under load. I can see the importance of having it set up correct. The measurements may change with different reference points. At the end I will be glad I took the time to get it right. Off to La Conner Wa for a week this Thursday. Yahoo.

I do have a scanner and have scanned the instructions into a Word document. The problem is the document is 775kb..... a little bigger than the 19.5 kb allowed by the forum to attach. I tried zipping the file but that still didn't make it small enough. Any suggestions?

Eric, do you know how to print to a PDF? I can also give you access to a folder on Google docs if you'd be willing to upload it there. Thanks... appreciate all your efforts.

I tried to convert it to a pdf but it ended up larger. I am not sure how to print to a pdf? If you have a google doc I can save it into that for you. Let me know what you would like to do.

Here's a link to the doc that Eric was so kind as to scan for us:

https://docs.google.com/open?id=0Bw8...Vc4ZHJHSVRDOFU

Latest version of the Reese High Performance Dual Cam Installation Instructions that mentions Jayco specifically.

I read through the latest REV "K" Dated 09/27/11, Installation Instructions, and compared it to the REV "H" Dated 07/30/10....., found the following differences:

* REV "K" in a couple line items added some minor "set-up" text.

* Figure "5" was cleaned up a little.

* REV "K" added an entire page devoted to the snap-up bracket titled: "Installation Instructions, Snap Up Bracket". In REV "H" there wasn't any reference to the snap-up bracket.

I have a couple of comments in respect to the new "Installation Instructions, Snap UP Bracket" page added to the REV "K", Installation Instructions for the Reese Dual Cam:

* Based on Reese's statement referencing Jayco ball couplers mounted to the bottom of the A-frame, the new Snap Up Bracket document is directed at Jayco products only. BUT, Jayco isn't the only RV manufacture with ball couplers mounted on the bottom, so it looks like I have to contact Reese for additional clarification.

* The snap-up bracket shown in the Reese referenced photo is a standard snap-up bracket, not the heavy duty version. Does this make a difference? Again, a question for Reese.

* Reese refers to the "installation of an additional bolt into the snap up bracket", but they only refer to drilling for one self tapper. The word "additional" is a little misleading. Question for Reese.

* Interesting that Reese isn't using the two lower existing holes on the snap up bracket for the bolt....., they must feel it's more effective locating the added bolt closer to the top of the TT A-frame. Question for Reese

* No where within the text is "tongue weight" mentioned. Why isn't tongue weight a variable? Question for Reese.

I plan to contact Reese Tech Support with my questions and will report back with their comments.

Bob

I contacted Reese today and spoke with a technical support Representative in respect to my initial questions, please note the following:

Reese incorporated the snap-up bracket installation requirement (bolt-on) based on feedback from Jayco customers utilizing the HP Dual Cam. Reese stated that if another RV manufacture has a similar A-frame ball coupler set-up they would recommend the snap-up bracket be bolted as well. Reese didn't have any data to-date that would suggest that the height of the steel tube frame would make a difference in their recommendation (5", 6", etc.).

Reese stated it doesn't make a difference between the standard or heavy duty snap-up bracket, both are to be bolted.

Reese stated that only one (1) bolt is required for the snap-up bracket located per the instructions.

Locating the bolt closer to the top of the frame is more effective.

Reese stated that the weight of the TT tongue didn't influence their findings based on the feedback from their Jayco customers.

IMO, based on my conversation with the Reese Representative the added snap-up bracket document incorporated within the REV "K" Installation Instructions that references only Jayco products is still work in progress. In fairness, I don't believe the Reese Representative I spoke to was aware of the actual engineering data/variables behind the added snap-up document.

Good info... thanks for posting it. It does sound a little confusing still. Since I haven't taken the time to go through those Rev K instructions yet, I will hold off until I do. Still busy as a one-armed paper-hanger.

Mike,

I agree. The particular representative I spoke with wouldn't provide (or just didn't know) me with any real information that I could walk away with feeling "now I understand".

One thing I did get out of the conversation was that Reese should clearly identify within their document the particular "A-frame Construction" in question that requires the snap-up bracket to be bolted, not single out Jayco, because other RV manufactures also have tube style A-frames.

Bob, I see where no tongue weight is specified. Are they saying all Jayco trailers should have the snap up bracket bolted, including for example my Jayflight? Sorry if I missed something as I have not read through the whole thread yet.

Lee,

Yep, that's what they are saying when you have a ball coupler welded to the "bottom" of the A-frame......, top welded ball couplers do not require the bolted snap-up bracket, but I know a couple guys with 1,200lb TT tongue weights that would disagree!

Well my ball coupler is welded to the top of the A frame, so I guess I`m off the hook for the bolts... I`ve not yet had a snap up bracket move on me.
