RV Charger or heavy duty Schumacher 2/5/110 amp

Question: To charge my two 12v group 24house batteries which came with the RV would it be better to: 1. run the 2000w Honda generator directly into the RV 110 and let the RV power center charge the batteries or 2. Plug my heavy duty Schumacher 2/5/110 amp car charger into the generator and apply directly to the batteries. From what I am reading the RV charger is not the most efficient.

Need a little more information... what year/model is your RV? The newer RV's all have smart chargers installed in them. They are mostly rated at 30+ amps and are designed for Deep Cycle batteries and taper off the charge as needed.

Stick with the RV unit it is a newer RV

I could write a book on my experience this summer with 2 group 24 batteries and recharging them. The bottom line (for this evening) is that either charger MIGHT work, BUT start charging from day 1!

My biggest mistake was to ASSUME I could use my batteries for 4 days before beginning to charge them. Wrong! Neither my trailer's Wifco charger or my schumacher 5/15/50 amp charger would bring the batteries back to full charge after 7 hours of generator time. I drew the line at 7 hours. I don't know how long it might have taken.

After days of trying various generator hours run time and charger combinations, I ran the generator for 2.5 hours every night using the trailer's converter/charger to keep the batteries up to a minimum of ~12.3 volts. I used the trailer's charger because it was much more convenient than the schumacher charger.
