Sewer hose storage problem

just bought a new X18 which has a storage comp for the sewer hose. The problem is the diameter of the storage compartment is 4in but the fitting to hook to my trailer sis larger than this because of how the ears on the fitting stick out. Is this just an odd sized fitting or is the compartment useless. I do not want to have to mess around removing the fittings rom the hose ends every time I use it.

Mine was the same. I just ground off about a 16th of an inch of the outside of the connector on two sides. Fits fine now.
