Shower Enclosure Shattered

We arrived at our destination last Friday evening to find the wall side section of our shower enclosure shattered. There is no way anything could have "fallen" as we travel with the shower head on the shower floor, nothing on the outside was out of place. We are mystified.

The trailer is still under warranty, but I am doubtful about this being a "warranty" item.

Any suggestions for repair/replacement (and cause) would be welcome.

Wow. That's a bummer.

It probably had a hairline crack to begin with an the vibration did the rest.

I would definitely go for the warranty first. If that doesn't work any company that makes/installs shower enclosures or glass repair company should be able to get you the glass cut to fit.

I'd say it's a warranty issue.

I'd also suggest a warranty claim. As Jmoo says, maybe a small crack or perhaps it was installed with the panel stressed and the vibration caused it to shatter.

I'd say this should be covered by warranty. It should be obvious that you didn't damage it or were abusive in any way. These are supposed to be built to handle the trailer towing experience. If your dealer doesn't help, I'd contact Jayco directly. But give your dealer a chance to help. They may surprise you and say it is fully covered. The worst part, though, is the camping season is just beginning and it may take awhile to get this corrected.

I agree Scoutr2 the timing is really not good. Besides not wanting to be without it I don't want it sitting around outside with thunderstorms roaming the country almost daily this time of year. I'd much rather it be at the house under it's protective enclosure in case of a hail storm. I'll take it in and let them keep it for a day or two, then schedule the repairs and take it home in the meantime. Once the dirt settles on whether it's going to be a warranty repair or not I can remove the rest of the glass and hang a piece of plastic or something in order to use it if needed in the meantime. Where there's a will there's a way ....

I would almost bet that the panel was installed with a slight twist to it and the glass was flexed, putting some pressure on it. All it takes from there is a big bump. I'd ask them to check to make sure the new glass isn't installed the same way. Just my opinion.

It was the panel to the right of the shower door. The one that attaches to the outside wall of the trailer.

I spoke to the supervisor of maintenance at my dealer and he said "bring it in and we'll take a look and get it turned in for warranty" He seemed pretty hopeful that the warranty would cover it. I'll be taking it to the dealer one day in the next week or so. I'll update you on how that goes.

Wow! Never heard that happenening before. I've heard the glass doors popping and cracking but, never the side wall. Warranty should definately cover that.

For those "breathlessly waiting" to hear what the dealer had to say, it was something akin to "I'll be dang, never seen anything like that before". At any rate they indicated that the parts would be on order ASAP and they would give me a call to bring it back in and have the shattered shower replaced. Haven't heard officially from the warranty folks yet, but the service manager said he couldn't imagine it being anything but warranty work. Lead time is 3 to 6 weeks but I still have the trailer and I can makeshift something that will be safe to use and still keep the water inside the shower. So far all is good. "Stuff" happens right?

Maybe cut a piece a 1/8" paneling or doorskin or masonite and wrap it with a plastic sheet. Duct tape it on the outside.

That's a good idea Rick, but I'll probably just tape a sheet of plastic inside the hole after I get the shattered piece out. Not as effective or as pretty, but it should only be for a few weeks and for me and the DW it'll be fine for a temporary fix.

For those still wondering, the shower enclosure finally came in and has been installed. Jayco first denied warranty coverage because glass breakage is not covered. After trying multiple times to get them to change their mind my dealer gave me the name and number of the gentleman who was denying the warranty coverage. I called the gentleman at Jayco, pled my case and he said, "Ok, let me take this to my supervisor and see what he says". About 15 min later he called back to tell me his supervisor said "pay it" and he had already called the dealer to authorize the warranty work. So at least for me, this time, Jayco did the right thing and stepped up. This is the "Reader's Digest" version of this story, if anyone is interested I'll fill in the details. It's kind of funny .... now.

Thanks for the update! I've been really pleased so far with warranty authorizations from Jayco.
