Why would you want to remove it... ETERNAbond is called that for a reason.. it is supposed to last for an eternity... I may scrape off all the ****ing and go to that stuff this winter while snowbirding.

Adding the EB (Eternabond) tape over the existing compromised tape edge may create high spots under the EB tape (also at the "screw head lumps"), and it may create another exposed tape edge depending on the width of EB tape used.

A friend of mine had to rebuild his slide because of a leak, and one thing he pointed out was that you don't want the top surface of the EB tape to rub against the rubber slide seal during slide movement (EB has poor surface abrasion resistance).

Prep the surface by cleaning with Acetone or Eternaclean before applying the Eternabond tape.

Eternabond is just that, when it is applied correctly. However, if the surface was not cleaned properly and/or the tape wasn't properly pressed down when applied, it can fail. Also, allegedly, there was a batch of bad Eternabond tape that got away from the factory.

Just for clarification, the existing OEM tape used on the slide is a butyl tape, EB is a higher quality tape.

Thanks for that clarificarion.

I have seen posts on other forums about problems with Eternabond because of improper installation or because of a possible bad batch. There is even at least one video out there that shows the results of improper installation and how to remove the old Eternabond so it can be replaced.

That's not how I "roll".

As others have stated, I want to apply the new tape over a clean flat surface so that it will adhere properly and not snag on the rubber weatherstripping when the slide is closed.

Automatic profanity filters with programmed paranoia can be maddening. If you were to use the single syllable word for pulling back the hammer on a pistol, it would be censored. Same for the four lettered original name for a rooster. Even adding erel to the word will result in the four lettered part getting zapped.

Yes it is automatic, not the work of the mods. Its happened to me as well on seemingly innocent words, like names of towns.

If you are typing a legitimate (and appropriate) word and you get stared out, you can edit the post and put a space between the offending letters. Unfortunately it is there because of the spammers and other deviants. It is why our new members have to be approved before they can post. It is amazing what these guys do to get their info posted.

I just love the automated naughty word detectors nowdays. I used to have an e-mail account on the search engine "E x cite.com" and I abandoned it because many of my recipients' company e-mail systems would block it.

I got bleeped on the forum by using a plumbing term describing a small drain valve "petcaulk" (intentionally misspelled to thwart the filter".

I just took my 28u in for it's first warranty work and on the list is the tape on the slide that needs replacing. I spoke with the service tech about this and he wasn't aware of any other trailers having this problem. I hope they replace the tape and put EB in it's place. I 'll just have to wait and see. I also had trouble adjusting the awning in and out of the fist set of holes so I hope they get that right too. According to the documentation the awning is suppose to auto retract if it gets windy and I haven't been able to replicate that. The slide needed adjusting and most of the other work was cosmetic. Surprisingly he told me that he could arrange to have the warranty work done closer to my home. The RV dealer I bought from is 400 km from where I live. They had the trailer I wanted and it was 3 grand cheaper than buying locally.

When you go to pick up your TT, run the slide out a little, and get on a ladder to inspect what they did, don't wait until you get to a CG. You may even want to run the slide in/out a couple of times to make sure the new tape doesn't pull up or get caught on the outer sidewall seal.

Same with the awning, operate it with the tech present. Since this is your first time with this particular service center near your home, inspecting the workmanship with "all parties" present is the best way to address any potential issues (if any).

Bob,, thanks for the advise. I plan on doing exactly that. There was a message left on the answering machine telling me that it was ready to be picked up. They said that the rubber seal that runs around the rear window had to ordered in and that I could wait to pick it up after they get it and install it, which I will do. I just hope they replaced the tape and checked for leaks on the slide out.
There is a college not far from where I bought my trailer that has a RV Tech course. I think its a two year course that certifies you for anywhere in North America. The Jayco dealer has 8 techs and would think they would have gone through the college. I would love to take the course for my own knowledge. After I got cancer I ended up on a disability pension so I would have to audit the classes to some degree as I wouldn't be employable.

I don't know about employable..., but you would bring a wealth of information to forums such as the "Jayco Owners Forums"!

Maybe you could start your own RV Technical Hot-Line web site similar to ones that answer technical questions on home appliances, electronics, plumbing, etc., and also offer on-line chat. There's always a way to utilize one's skill set, and possibly generate a little extra income on the side as well.
