Smoke and CO detectors

Can anyone tell me if the smoke and CO detectors from the local big box store will work for my TT? They say they will work in a mobile home on the back. Or do I need to get them specifically from a RV/ Camper store. I am an expert in residential and commercial detectors, but not RV ones

If you mean the '9 volt battery' type smoke & CO detectors, I have never heard of any reason those detectors could not be used in any RV or home. I realize this is a sort of 'double negative' response, but this is the first time I've heard of this issue.

There is also a 'hardwired' detector for CO and propane that uses 12 volts from the RV battery. These are probably not available at a big box store, only RV etc. stores.

Yeah the propane one that is wired into the side of the cabinet is still good but the smoke detector and the Co detector that hang from the ceiling in my 06 31BHDS both have expired dates.

If you are looking to the hard wired type (i.e., the ones in your RV are hard wired), then you will need to get the 12V specific ones. Most likely from an RV store, but you may find them in a big box store.

No these are both battery only hanging from the ceiling, the propane one in the side of the cabinet is hardwired but that one is still good.

We had to replace the CO detector in our old hybrid a few years ago. I found a Kidde one that was exactly same as the Atwood one in the trailer that needed replacing. It used the same mounting bracket and everything, so it was an easy replacement. Literally, the only difference was the name on the faceplate.
