solar and RV cover

Not worried about snow, but buying my first RV cover and wonder if enough light will get through to trickle charge batteries?

Thanks for any feedback. Dave.

What size panel? What color cover? Does any light penetrate it? Tough question to answer.

Hmmm... hard to know. But I doubt it personally... the cover is designed to block sunlight and UV so by definition it's blacking out your panels... but really that has to depend on the thickness of the cover, the color of it and if the one you buy lets any light through. I guess you won't know until you try.. also a big factor is how many panels you have.

Edit - or just read what Don said lol.

Here is a though... how about getting some clear plastic (like the type used on the Jeep soft tops) and cutting open the section above the SOLAR panel and having someone sew it into the cover. There are professional seamstress's that would probably take on the challenge.

If you have more than one panel, and they are connected in PARALLEL it will not matter if you only do one panel, as the one that is covered will not affect the output of the uncovered panel.

Just a thought

Thanks Don! Light coloured cover, says it is breathable - if that matters. Haven't got the solar installed yet. Want to go Li-ion batteries and lots of panels. Would like 3000 constant and 4000 surge.

Hard to find an installer in Canada. Batteries are available in Calgary and Toronto.

Perhaps getting it done in the USA makes sense. seems to be more experienced dealers.
Dave.
