Sony explod issue

I just bought a new octane 26y, the Sony explod sound system is great but there is hardly any sound from subwoofer. I haven't messed with sound systems since the late 80's lol, any ideas on what might be wrong?

I have a sony xplod in a truck but its several years old so likely different but you may have to tinker with the various sound choices in the equalizer settings. Of course it could also be the speaker or wiring as well.

My training with audio systems suggest that you won't hear much from a subwoofer.

The very low pressure waves are meant to be felt, not heard.

If it has a Sony amp somewhere, surly it must have a gain control. Turn it up.

Are you an audio guy? Cool job if you are.

My understanding is that you won't necessarily hear it with surround sound, the term is "low frequency effects".

But with music, you should be able to hear the bass.

I trained as an electronics technician in the late 1970's. Worked with an a cappella group in the mid '80's. Still drool over the sound boards at concerts and plays.

Yes, we should hear the bass notes down to about 20Hz or so. Depending on how much we abused our ears.

But the whole point of a sub-woofer is to deliver sound waves that we experience in our bones, not our ears. And yes, that requires LOTS of power to pull off!

I played with mine a bit when I found they messed up a cable from the head unit to the amp and tried to use a video cable. I'm not sure who designs the system but it was completely jacked on my Octane, pretty much a mono setup. I couldn't tell you what I did but I finally got front/ rear…left and right to work from the four speakers and couldn't tell you what is going to the outside speakers but it is OK sound. I will someday take it to an audio place and get it set up properly. Pull the head unit and you may find a 4 in to two out converter that serves no purpose as well as a second AV cable that goes over to the amp area for ?????.
Sorry not much help but I swear these people installing these systems just plug stuff together in the 5 min they are allotted.
An hour with a good audio guy would result in a good sounding setup as they don't seem to skimp on product quality (all Sony)……to bad they don't take the time to hook it up
right.

Ross….

Thanks

Thanks for all the input, I can't find an amp anywhere , may go see if I can get one. The sub only gets mildly loud when volume all the way up.
It's funny you mention the set up. When I fade all the way to the back, all that u hear is the sub and all the way up almost no volume. Fade all the way forward and it's all the roof speakers. I guess I'll be tinkering! Anymore input keep it coming

My amp is in the open portion of the cupboard on the curb side..right above the window. lights up when the AV master switch is on. Still not sure why they separated it from the stereo, hookup would be so simple if it was all in the same place.

What is this

They have all kinds of fancy splices but they don't go anywhere when I unplug the red/white AV cables no sound? Still haven't found an amp?
