Splendide Vent Cover

The attached picture is of the dryer vent cover that is installed on my 5'er. This is the second one that has broken since new three years ago. I contacted Westland Sales looking for a metal one that isn't so fragile. They do have a metalized plastic one, but it has different screw patterns and I absolutely hate drilling holes in anything, especially drilling new holes in place of old holes.

Does anyone know of a vent cover that will replace this one? The vent tube is 4" and the holes on the cover, visible in the picture, are 5 1/2" square center to center.

Don't know about a replacement alternative, but the existing one looks like a standard home vent available at any home improvement store. Is it breaking during transit? The plastic vent fans probably aren't designed to handle 60 or 70 mph speeds going down the road. I would tape them closed before hitting the road. I would also bite the bullet and switch over to the Home improvement items and just do a careful job sealing up the existing holes if the replacement requires new holes. Might even buy 2 or 3 of the new ones for future installation to make sure the new holes don't have to be changed again. The cook range vent on the side of our TT has a lock down feature for travel to prevent the vent damage.

Hurricane force wind damage, I think Bassdogs has this right. Perhaps a directional vent cover would work, those are sold in home stores and are installed to direct the air down and prevent rain from coming in the vent. They might also prevent wind from beating the vent to pieces.

If you travel with your roof vent open it may equalize the air pressurre inside your unit and keep the flaps on the vent closed. Just thinkin'
