Tail Light Wires

The socket in my tail light is rusty and causing problems. Im going to replace the socket. The trail light has a green, black and white wire coming from the trailer (see picture)
Does anyone know what function (i.e. turn signal) corresponds to what wire color?

Green should be turn signal, black should be stop/running lights, white should be ground.

You may want to consider an LED conversion. I had the same issue with sockets rusting in the original taillights. The LED conversion kit was only about 40 bucks. It includes a pair of LED circuit boards and a new pair of lenses.

If you're keeping the same style bulb/socket light, coat the inside of the new socket, and base of the bulb with dielectric grease, and it'll last longer. The lenses don't seal out water at all like a car or truck. I also second the LED conversion. It was a 10 minute job on each lamp.

I read this recently on the etrailer web site while looking to upgrade tail lights to LED, I don't want to remove and replace all my side marker lights.

Incandescent lights draw much more amperage than LEDs do, and if they pull that current through the LED fixtures, the LEDs could burn up.
