TV Antenna Maintenance?

We are permanently setup in a valley between 2 mountains, with TV signals far away. The OEM Weingard didn't give me much. I replaced it with a King Jack and got 4 channels.....sometimes.

At first i thought it was NG on cloudy days. Then NG on sunny days. Then only good at noon, etc. In any event it was hit or miss.

Now i can't get anything. I noticed that the antenna is somewhat dirty, most likely from pollen and then rain.

Is there any maintenance to do on these things?

If you are down in the valley and out of line of sight, no antenna will bring it in consistently.

I think that is why they put DVD's in there. LOL

The only maintenance that my manual recommends is lubrication of the o-rings to keep them pliable so that they don'y leak.

Still chuckling about the "Hildebeast" comment. Best one I've heard to date. Might need to borrow that one.

A better option for you is probably a satellite dish.

It wasn't an original comment of mine. It's all over the internet. Goes along with Obozo. Haven't heard a good one for the donald though.

What orings need lubrication? My antenna is permanently up so it won't ever move.

You are probably just to far from the transmit tower and not in line of sight to get the signals. Satellite is an option but do you get local news? Try tvfool.com to see if OTA signals are in your coverage area.

The best antenna I have found that isn't really expensive is the 8 bowtie array. This one does not have a built-in amplifier so you will have to get one of those as well. Super DB8 Multidirectional HDTV Antenna

This one has alot of gain but you have to really point it accurately...

looks like this

My BATWING antenna however does a bang up job. Mine has the added dipoles on it. It is pointing correctly to pick up TV stations to the right of the photo. Looks like this one

I'm assuming you are providing 12VDC to the antenna to operate the built-in Antenna Booster Amplifier. You also have to use your HDTV menu and select ANTENNA and do the scan for signals everytime you setup somewhere...

We camp alot way back in the woods with my OFF-ROAD POPUP setup and gots to have TV for weather channel live radar. Always not a good idea to get caught in high wind...
