Water pump

We are taking our Whitehawk 27dsrl out for the first time after purchasing and staying at the dealers campground for a couple nights. We had full hookups there and things were fine. We are camping in a state park about 15 min from home this coming weekend and could only get a sight with electric so we are going to fill our fresh water tank when we get there. Once we are set up do we turn on the water pump and leave it on all the time? We are newbies so this is all new and we want to do things right.

You're absolutely right - just turn the pump on. Generally speaking it won't run unless you open a faucet, flush the toilet, take a shower, etc. It *may* run for a few seconds on its own from time to time - if it seems like it's happening a lot then you will want to check for a leak in the plumbing somewhere. Enjoy!

Probably a good idea to sanitize your system prior to first use. You just don't know what's been in the system. Your manual should have sanitization instructions. If not, a search for the key word "sanitize" will work on this forum.

Yes, leave your pump turned on all the time. The pump will only run on demand, in other words when you turn on a faucet.

X2 on sanitizing the water system.

Without water hookup at the camp site, where do you plan to fill your tanks? Do you have a water bandit/cheater if there are no threads to connect your water hose?

Yes, you can leave the pump on. The pump will cycle on and off when you use the water.

Is a good practice to turn your water off (pump or at the spigot) when you leave the trailer for a while. Although rare, if something leaks or bursts, it's better if you are there. We plan to shut ours off every time we leave for a while. We remember about 85% of the time.

This is a brand new TT and the freshwater tank was filled so that we could perform our PDI and then drained. We have to store it at a storage facility and we are not going to have the time to sanitize the tanks before the weekend. We will be drinking bottled water and so only plan on using the fresh water tank for showering, dishes and toilet. Will we be okay without a proper sanitization of the tank?

IMO, you should be fine without sanitizing your system. I say this assuming that you used water through your trailer's 'city' system when you had full hookups on your previous trip and that trip was fine.

IMO, sanitizing is a precaution most of us take each year and Jayco says to do it with a new trailer to cover their hind ends if someone gets sick. Sanitizing is something that should be done, but NOT doing it doesn't mean you'll have a problem, it just increases the odds that something unpleasant could find a home in your FW system.
