What is it ???

I removed my strainer for cleaning on my Shurflo water pump located under the bathroom sink.....While poking around I saw two vertical water lines about 2" apart. At the top they were joined by a small Black fixture (3" x 1 1/2") with a cap. When the cap was removed I could see a White part that appears to block water flow......Can anyone tell me what this is and what does it do ???
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you are looking at the gray water Air Admittance Valve(s). When you drain your gray water tank(s) it allows air in the pipe so the water can drain out. The valve is suppose to close when the tank is empty or the water flow is stopped.

If you ever get a sewer smell from under your sink it normally means that the valve is sticking open.
