what portable waste tank is best????

I am looking for a portable tank, I have seen many different kinds and have read the reviews on a lot of them, I just figure I would ask the pro's? I just looking for a mid sized tank maybe 20-27gal. I have seen bad reviews on barker, thetford, tote and stor, what do you guys think

It's probably pretty subjective.. I have the barker and love it.. I would recommend though that you get something bigger than your gray water tank.. My tank is 32 gallons and I have a 42 gallon barker.. Sometimes your gray tank can overflow into the tub which means you have a lot more than 32 gallons and you want something that can handle the overflow..

Yep...that's a personal preference thing like Tex said. All are pretty good and you pick the one that suits your needs. I have a Thetford 35 gallon tote and have had no issues at all. My gray and black tanks are 32.5 each so I too wanted something a bit larger so there is no overflow.

I saw one guy at a camp ground that had a large blue empty tank sitting in his truck bed.

What he was doing was using one of those FLOJET 18555-000 Waste Water 12VDC Pump Kits using a 3/4-inch water hose to pump the waste up into the tote then disconnecting the hose at the pump and tieing off high on the truck. Than driving the truck to the dump site and letting gravity feed dispose it down the dump site.


I thought that was a neat idea.. No fuss or mess...

His comment was to be sure to get a tote bigger than the tank you was draining haha...

Our choice (Thetford) was based on a different criteria ... how to transport it when empty! No way was it going into the TT, and DH wasn't looking forward to having it fill the truck bed under the lid (with bikes, generators, firewood, or whatever else we might be hauling that trip). THEN we saw a nifty solution AND followed one to see how it rode (no bounce) SO we purchased the ladder chair rack and appropriate tie-down straps - it fits like it was made for it and can be well-secured so tail lights are visible.

BTW: In the spirit of full disclosure - and since we tend to fill-up gray before black - when we don't have sewer hook-ups or there isn't a site dump station we maximize the campground facilities (showers, toilets) and use our dishwashing gray water for flushes.

I have the Barker 42 gallon that I bought off of a guy on craigslist for $100. Then I called Barker and asked if I could buy the new pneumatic wheel kit. They said I could, but that instead they would send them for free. No company does that in this day and age, so I would go with Barker for the customer service alone.

We have a 32 gallon Barker which has just about the same capacity as our grey tank. It works fine but we really regret not spending the extra $$$$ to get one with four wheels. When you get 32 gallons or even less into our 2-wheeled tank it is extremely heavy and it's hard to put it onto the hitch for transport to the dump site.
