Wiring Harness adapter

Hi,
Im new owner of used Jayco 1007. It has a 7 pole wiring harness and my truck has a 4 pole. Can I just buy the adapter below without having to hook up any of the 'loose' wires (blue, black, yellow). I want to make sure Im able to use the tow vehicle batter to charge the battery if ever needed. Thank you

I think you are going to run into the problem that the four-way plug on your truck will not support ELECTRIC BRAKES on your trailer. If it has installed electric brakes then you will want to use them (Actually a DOT Requirement)... Usually if the trailer has a 7-way cable it has electric brakes installed on it.

If the 1007 Trailer does not have electric brakes on it then your adapter down to a 4-way would probably be just fine.

If you only connect to the 4 pole connector that will only give you running lights, left and right brake/turn signals, and a ground. You won't get the charging wire (or electric brakes like Roy mentioned) without connecting some of the 'loose' wires.

You probably need to take your truck to a shop that can do trailer wiring. If your trailer has a 7 pin head you will most likely need a brake controller installed if your truck isn't already equipped with one. If you only have a 4 prong plug I would think you don't have a controller.

If you look you can find a 7 way to 4 way adapter that requires no wiring. I use one on my utility trailer. Got it at an RV outlet or check further on Etrailer.

Something like this:

The OP has the 7 pin on his trailer and the 4 pin is on his truck.
