2009 Truck in WI, Do they Rust/corrode?Any worries?Do you live in that region?

Hello again, Looking at a 3500 that is in Wisconsin, since I cannot seem to find any reasonable offer and what i want close to me in NC. Should i be concerned with getting a truck from Wisconsin? its a 2009 looks like it has spent its life there, Dealer Pictures look great. I know they get a lot of winter weather and wondering if I should be concerned about corrosion. I am hoping to hear from those of you in that region. All comments are appreciated. I have heard that vehicles from the North get a lot of corrosion but this may be different with newer vehicles and undercoatings now days but wondering if you live in that climate how is your vehicle doing with Rust and corrosion..?

Uhhh yeah. They start salting the roads about the same time Michigan starts and they don't quit until they run out or Memorial day, whichever comes first. The newer vehicles are a lot better than the old ones were. My 2003 Odyssey still looks almost brand new underneath. The bottom edge of the rear hatch is just beginning to show signs of rust. You need to be looking for vehicles in Tennessee, Missouri, Arkansas, Georgia and the like if you want to avoid the annual midwestern salt baths.

Ive seen plenty of truck come through town from that area looking pretty crusty. Most of what I see along that lines are Dodges with half bumpers and no rear quarters. Keep looking..

I store my truck and convertible, the slime and salt really eats at the underside. If the truck was stored maybe if not keep looking.

I was my trucks often in the winter to get the salt off and have never had a problem with rust. I traded my 1998 Suburban in on my 2011 Sierra back in early 2011 and it didn't have a bit of rust from the WI winters. That being said, I do take better care of my vehicles than most.

I just traded my almost rust free 2005 Explorer with 200,000 miles for a 2009 F150 with 60,000 miles. As far as I can tell the new truck looks brand new, not a spec of rust, not even underneath. Newer vehicles just don't seem to rust like the older ones. I would not be afraid of the truck, but it really depends on how it was cared for by it's previous owner.

it really depends on the previous owner.. and how well he looked after it.. if he never washed it and let the salt sit on it for months then it will be rusted beyond belief.

everything rusts up here. We use lots of salt on the roads they are still putting it down with this unending winter. Rain/snow tonight! A 2009 might still be ok but I wouldn't buy it without looking at it in person. My truck has been stored all winter for this reason.

I live in northern Wisconsin & if you take care of your vehicles they are fine. I would look at it before you buy it. I had a 2004 I bought used & spent it's whole life in Wisconsin. I traded it last year without a spot of rust on it. Being a 2009 I don't think you have anything to worry about.

X2 on the comments regarding salt use in Wisconsin and its effect on vehicles (which apply, in general, to the upper midwest aka rust-belt). Some people take very good care of their vehicles year-round; others not so much. Also, it depends upon how the vehicle was used (commercial? snowplow? pleasure?) and maintained. In general, it's always better to find/pursue a used truck outside of the rust-belt (ie, no snowplow use or exposure to winter road salt). My guess is that you're specifically looking at this TV (3500) because none are found in your area. I travel throughout central Wisconsin and northern Illinois; I would be happy to visit the dealership and take some (better) pics of the 3500 if the dealership isn't too far from my travel(s). Just PM me if interested (note: I'm not interested in a 3500). Eventually, you will need to visit the dealership and inspect it firsthand if you decide to "move" on the 3500.

I found a southern truck that's never seen snow. 2008 3500. Pick it up next week.

You might be able to find a vehicle inspector for less than $150 to take a good look at it for you.
Kind of like home inspectors.
Could save you a trip or make it worth your while.
They give you a report along with pictures.

Just a thought.

Might Google that service in the area of the truck.
