3/4 ton gmc can it tow a pinnicle

I have a 2013 gmc 2500 hd with 6 liter gas engine, I currently tow a 33.5 rets eagle 5th wheel the gear ratio in the truck is a 4:10. I would like to upgrade to a 32 or a 36 foot pinnicle. Jayco dealer say I have enough truck, anyone else out there towing with this set up? Or do you need to go bigger on the truck ,like 1ton or a Dually ?

Check the specs on your truck. I would say the limiting factor will be the tongue weight. Don't forget to factor in the loaded weight of your cargo.

I would take your existing TV/FW under loaded conditions to a CAT scale and weigh it. Compare the CAT scale results with your 2500HD's specified weight limits and see how much remaining weight capacities you have available.

IMO the 2500HD may lack enough payload capacity for the Pinnacle's loaded pin weight, and the 6.0L gasser may be a little shy on towing a 14,000 pound loaded Pinnacle.

Just looked at our 2011 owners manual, max towing with the 6.0 and 4.10s is 14,000lbs, that doesn't change going to a 1 ton, the 6.0 can only do so much. If it were me, I'd be looking for a Duramax for something that size.

With the Pinnicle, you'll most likely exceed your trucks payload capacity - the amount that can be carried in the bed before reaching your GVWR which for yours I believe is 9300#. Take ride to a scale and weight the truck loaded with you, a full tank of fuel, the hitch and all the belly buttons and other stuff you'd normally carry when headed to the campground (no trailer). Subtract that weight from 9300 pounds and you'll know what pin weight you can begin thinking about.

Your current trailer has a published pin weight of 1835# and a Pinnicle comes in over 2400# which may be over the top.

Like some other stated, the tongue weight may be to much for the 6.0. I've read where people towed heavy with that engine and gears and had no issues but doing it safely is another. Not sure if it changed but I thought the 6.0 3/4 ton had a tow rating of 10,200,but that was a few years ago I looked,it may be a tad higher now since manufacturer's are upping tow rating on trucks a lot now, and the GCWR is 16,000.But this was from earlier models when I looked at gas or diesel. But if you GVWR is 9200 and truck weighs around 6k it still could be possible cause you would be under the weight, definitely load up and scale it to be certain

Rustic has nailed it. The CAT Scale is your friend.
If it turns out you can pull that much TT the next question is whether the 6.0 gasser is up to the task.
The dealer? If you show up with a 1963 VW beetle he'd probably tell you it's gonna pull just fine.

I towed a 30' 9000 pound fifth wheel with a Chevy 2500 HD with the 6.0 gasser and a 4.10 rear end. The truck could handle the weight just fine - no problem turning, stopping or controlling the trailer. But the acceleration was only marginally tolerable; in mountains, hills, or merging onto an expressway the truck was underpowered for the job. I think that adding 5000 pounds more weight would make it almost impossible to drive safely.

i moved a pinnicle around a dealer lot with a 6.0 2500 and there is no way i would ever tow that on the road with that truck, its just not enough power and the truck sagged like a bastard, you need at least a 2500 diesel with something extra it the back end (bags or extra leafs), preferably a 3500 srw diesel on the low end

I pulled a jayco designer rl 31 out west and back for five years . I pulled it with a 05 f250 ford diesel 3:73 rear gears . The truck squatted until it hit the extra leaf spring that I had on the truck . The last year or so it was getting a little tired and had to work a little harder. I now have a Pinnacle 36REQS which is actually 40 ft . I ended up buying a new f350 DRW Crew cab 6.7 diesel that I towed about 6,000 miles last year and pulled like a dream. My personal thoughts are can you pull a Pinnacle ? Probably would I do it ? No ! Their are a lot of long 7degree grades out west and I personally wouldn't want to always have to worry if it's going to make it . JMO. If you plan on pulling 3 or 4 thousand miles each year get a bigger truck .the bottom line is what you feel comfortable with ? It's a big investment.

We had a 2011 Pinnacle and pulled it with a 2500HD Duramax SRW, our first trip from Florida to TX was a white knuckle trip.
The wind pushed us around quite bad, moved up to a 3500HD Duramax DRW and went coast to coast last spring, ride and stability was great.
Upgrade to heaver truck was well worth the money IMHO.
We fulltimed in or Pinnacle and it had a Pin Weight of 3,700 lbs and total weight of 15,700 lbs.
Does not take much stuff to get the weight up there, also we had Dual Pane windows and a Washer / Dryer which added quite a bit of weight.
We loved our Pinnacle, it served us well, great 5th Wheel.

I've been looking at buying a new TV. Considering a Duramax 3/4 ton crew. Today I checked the payload capacity on one (posted on the pillar behind the driver door). Payload was about 2400lbs. Pretty disappointing! I wouldn't even think about pulling a Pinnacle with that. The 1 ton SRW payload was rated 4300lb and cost about $1000 more. Cheap for the added safety IMHO
