Aftermarket Diesel Gauges

I'm looking to add a few gauges to my 6.7 Powerstroke so I can monitor a few things that I feel are important to normal engine operation. Does anyone have any experience or recommendations for any aftermarket gauges? Also, I saw one post recently about a computer plug in and Bluetooth data transmission to an iPhone app but I can't find it. Thanks!

The iPhone app is dash command. Several are available but it seems this is the most popular. If you look at the Android market look at Torque Pro. If you go this route read the description and make sure you get the correct OBDII adapter. Some are Bluetooth, some are WiFi. I use torque pro and recently cross loaded it onto my Kindle Fire HD. Gives you a lot of info without. running wires and a lot cheaper. This is the info your computer uses to operate your engine. These are the numbers that count.

I have a set of factory match isspro gauges in my truck. I really like them and they have been very reliable and relatively easy to install.

I went with ScanGaugeII. Very compact and displays the parameters I need. There's no graphics, just the numbers I want to monitor.

I have 3 isspro gauges mounted on the pillar. I also have the scangauge II. I plan on getting the torque app as well.

How much did this setup run you roughly? This is what I would like to have but I'm not sure if I want to drop the cash today for it. Did you install yourself? Do you just wire it into the dash computer or is it involved?

I was reading about the ScanGauge and I am interested. Will it show Exhaust Gas Temp and Fuel Pressure?

Thanks...I think is the route I am going to go for now. I'll pick up one of those OBDII gizmos from the link below and give it a whirl.

On the sheet I have for the 6.7L, it shows that it does have Exhaust Gas Temp, but nothing about Fuel Pressure.

You could check with ScanGauge to see that is still true. I printed my sheet in October '14. As I understand it, when they find and decode sensors, codes are added on-line for the customers to update their units.

I went with 2 gauges on the pillar. boost and egt. If I was doing it again I would add rear diff temp to the mix (I have a factory installed trans temp gauge)

Gauges

I went with the MaxTow Diesel Gauge Series. I've had them for 1 year and have had no problems so far. I picked the 30PSI Boost Gauge, 1500 Degree Pyrometer Gauge and Transmission Temperature Gauge.
I mounted them on the a-pillar. I really like the tranny temp gauge. The EGT gauge was the hardest to install due to having to drill into the exhaust manifold. Everything was included. Even a drill bit. Best $250 TV upgrade money can buy.

Sorry for the slow response. Will try to figure out what I spent. Installed the pillar mount also. I wired it in myself. Instructions were very helpful and it basically came with everything you need. Not bad at all with basic wiring skills. I chose a boost pressure, pyro, and transmission temp. The boost pressure is a sensor you install on the intake manifold. Usually in a port depending on make. The pyro is a probe in your exhaust manifold or post turbo. The transmission temp has a couple options. One is a thermistor I think is what it's called. It clamps onto a transmission cooler line and reads the temp from that line. You can also cut the line and add a slightly more accurate sensor in the line. I chose the clamp on style. You install your sensors then run all the wiring neatly into the cab. Tie into your dash dimmer and ground lines. They tell you which wires to tie into. Pretty simple. Let me know if you want more info. Will try to find the price and get you a pic. I like it because they are more natural then digital gauges and match the dash cluster nicely.

No hurry but thanks for the info. I figure a setup like this will probably set me back $700 or so. But I'm more concerned if I will be able to do it. I will do the iPhone route for now and hopefully by summer I'll have these installed. Most mechanical projects aren't a problem for me but my 6.7 Powerstroke is packed in the engine compartment. Seems like a nightmare. Thanks!

Just curious exactly what temps you want to monitor other than EGT's. The info screen in gauge mode gives you engine oil/trans temps and there is a turbo boost gauge in the instrument cluster. After running mine hard, I let it idle for about a minute to reduce egt's to prevent oil coking in the turbo shaft lubrication area. Egt's are the highest when the regen process is enabled. After I typed this, I read that you want to monitor fuel pressure as well. Not sure why. Wouldn't the truck would shut down before you could do anything about it?

Actually fuel pressure is the thing I look at most on the marine diesels (Caterpillars) I work on. When the pressure starts to drop its time to change the filters. My particular normals are about 55psi at 1500 rpm. When it reaches 45psi its time to change the filters. The engine will run with a lower psi but below 45 I start to see other issues especially under heavy loads. Below 37 they won't run. You do not want to know how I learned that. All engines and models will have different numbers but the principle is the same.

With these extremely sensitive fuel systems, I want to make sure the rail is always getting the pressure it needs. I don't want to rely on just changing the filter occasionally and hoping for the best. Could indicate bad injectors or a clog and rather than running the engine with these problems, Id rather be proactive. Not sure if you are familiar with the 6.7 fuel system and rebuild cost but it's outrageous. Also, I wanted the EGT to keep an eye on the regens. I'm very particular with my equipment and I believe that monitoring your engine vitals can save a lot of money later. Wish they'd put more of this stuff on the dash.
