Air suspension

I have a 1/2 truck and am towing a 26RLS. 6300# dry and probably 7300# total. We are having no problems and it is towing great.

Just wondered if anyone has used the air suspension systems and what they think of them, how they have helped, etc.

Thought they might keep some of the tongue load off my leaf springs.

We have Firestone air bags. After hitching up the trailer I air back up so the rear is close to where it was with the truck empty. Then I install the torsion bars.

KRP,

The air suspension may help with leveling out the rear of your TV and possibly enhance leaf spring functionality (support some of the weight), but keep in mind the actual loaded weight over the TV's rear axle will remain the same. Only the WDH can remove (distribute) weight from the rear axle.

I have the Eaze-Lift WDH. It is in the second chain link and it tows great. A few weeks ago I decided to take it to the third link to see what happened. Not far down the road I felt that the rear end was a little lite and I noticed some sway Did not seem as comfortable so I switched it back.

I know some others that are towing a they swear by the Fire..... Ride Rites so I thought I would give them a try.

Kevin21,

Just curious, what was happening with the front suspension of your TV at the different settings?

Ideally when adjusting the WDH under load one should return the TV's front fender to it's "unhitched height" (return the same weight that was removed when the TT tongue was initially placed on hitch ball), thus providing optimum TV/TT handling characteristics. Perfectly normal for most TV's rear to squat 1" to 2" after a proper WDH adjustment.

Let us know what you think of the Ride Rites.

I have the ride rites, and use them just to keep everything level. I played with my equalizer hitch and air bags until I was happy with how everything towed. I use the on board compresser, so I can adjust on the fly.

Good Luck,
