Everything in here is good. Both of those trucks are great I think and you really can't go wrong with either. Put your butt in the seat and see which one feels best.

CaldwellOne,

You haven't said what you're towing (sorry if you did and I missed it).
Based on the VINs in your OP, IMO the critical weight ratings for each truck are:

RAM / Chevy
GCWR = 18300.0 min 25300.0 max / 20500.0 min 24500.0 max
GVWR = 9000.0 min 10000.0 max / 9500.0 min 10000.0 max
GAWR-rear = 6200.0 min 6500.0 max / 6200.0 min 6700.0 max

Not sure what differentiates between the min and max weight ratings.
But the weights are a push or maybe a slight edge to the Chevy.

IMO both are good choices from a towing perspective, maintainability, and performance, so it come down to which one you feel rides the best and is the most comfortable.

FYI - earlier years of RAM trucks (2006 - 2008 I think) had a problem with violent front end vibrations at highway speeds after hitting a bump in the pavement, called a "Death Wobble". Do a Google search on "RAM Death Wobble". But I believe they have resolved that issue. You may want to do your own research to confirm this.

Good luck.

Unfortunately the 6.4 isn't available in my price range. And I do believe this RAM has the air ride... Im getting this for 34K with 12000 miles on it so it fits my price.. The chevy is also slightly used at 14K.

Got mine new off the lot for 35 and change. Like I said, it's the Tradesman, but it's a dang fine truck.

Yup, as you've indicated, there's no problem with weight limits on either truck and both will tow your trailer very nicely.

Good luck, let us know which one you choose.

I own a 2015 gm 2500 and I love it. I test drove the ram and liked it too but have always been a gm guy so I didn't see a reason to change. I changed from a 1500 so they both felt like a rougher ride but I didn't see much difference between the 2. As far as suspension, brakes and all that goes, I'm not a mechanic and can't really compare the 2. All I can say is I'm very pleased with the way this new truck handles my 29qbs. I towed in some big winds and gave it a real world workout last week and very much enjoyed it!! My only complaint is MPG, I'm sure it's comparable between all these trucks but definitely not very good. Happy to pay it tho to have the confidence of the 2500.

Are you sure the Chevy has the 3.73 gearing? Is this 2wd or 4wd? I ask because it was my understanding with the new body ('15) that GM was only offering the 6.0 truck with the 4.10's. And I believe the gvwr is 9500lbs, but could be a 2wd vs 4wd situation again....

If it was a 6.4 vs 6.0, I would say which ever is the most comfortable to drive. But since it is a 5.7 vs 6.0, I vote for the 6.0 for the reasons mentioned!

Good luck deciding!!!

That's my answer too. Mechanically and towing wise either truck is fine. It's what you want to spend time in.

Well not a problem with this TT, but how big do you think your NEXT trailer will be? If you are like most of the masses here, 2-footitis will kick in eventually. I am on a constant cycle of bigger TV, bigger TT, bigger TV, bigger TT and so on...

Figure a 3/4 ton is my next step too, because I think the next TT after that will be a medium size 5th, which is why I am reading along here...

Bank,

Do you think you will get a gas or diesel motor? If diesel (maybe even for the gas too), you may want to consider a 3500/350 for the extra payload over the 2500/250. Not sure what your passenger weight is, but more so with a diesel a 2k lb + pin weight, plus the 5ver hitch weight can eat up most (if not all) the payload of a 2500/250. Just something to consider.

Final Decision

Ok I went with the Ram 2500. The deciding factor? During my test drives, I noticed the Hemi was getting WAY better gas milage. I was getting 11MPG average with the chevy and almost 16 with the RAM. They were both awesome trucks but the ram had more positives checked on its side. Some of those were Better fuel milage, 1 year newer, $1800 less. The chevy had a nicer interior though and all the controls were just way more intuitive. You can also tell that chevy put better quality materials into parts of the truck such as better rims, better seats, better wiper arms, better floor mats, better mirriors.... Unfortunately they weren't anything really important to me and didn't make it any better of tow vehicle. So I am pretty happy with my decision. The Ram was just more truck for the buck..

A Chevy 2500 6.0 is 9500 gvwr,the link at the top is for a 12 1500.

2015 Chevy Silverado 2500's with the 6.0L only come with 4.10's. 6.6 duramax get 3.73's.Prior to 2015 3.73's were standard and 4.10's were optional on gas 6.0's.Gm realized what a mistack it was a did away with the 3.73's on the gasser's.

I own a 15 Silverado 2500 6.0. I drove a dodge but I can't stand the "curb feel" of the truck.Its hard to make out where your fenders and bumpers are.

Actually for '14 the 4.10's were standard and 3.73's were optional.

I went with a Chevrolet for my truck because GM offers a factory 5 year / 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. Neither Dodge nor Ford could match that. yes the bumper to bumper was the same, but I wanted that powertrain warranty as I put 45,000 miles a year on my vehicle since it is a business vehicle and my tow vehicle. Just having that extra in the warranty was totally worth it for me.

Congrats! I have the same truck but with a Cummins. You will learn to love the rear coils and 5 link. I never want to go back to leaf springs.
