Anyone buy new GMC 2500HD lately?

I am looking at selling my 2005 Duramax for a new one. Wondering if anyone can post what MSRP vs. out the door prices they have gotten within the last few months.

A friend of mine purchased a 2500 LTZ a few months ago. He went thru Costco's auto program. Sorry, I don't know what he paid, but he said he "felt" like he got a great deal, plus he said he got a Costco gift card for using the auto program.

If it was an LTZ then it is either a 2006 or a 2007 prior to the 2007.5

Actually, the 2016 Chevy trucks have the LTZ as an option. The options now are WT, LT, LTZ and High Country. GMC has Sierra, SLE and SLT.

My bad...It wasn't a "GMC", it's a 2016 "Chevy". To me, they are the same vehicle!

i bought a GMC SLT in March. I bought with employee discount so I can't help with what your price might be. i would recommend however that you look at a 3500 instead of 2500. You can still get srw in 3500. Upgrade to 3500 was only about $1200. The Duramax takes a lot of payload away from the 2500.

I thought the same thing before I started looking into them.

I was originally looking at the 3500HD SRW trucks, but with the options I want, it is like looking for a unicorn. In all of Arizona, there are only a handful of the 2500HD's with the interior color I want (tan - cocoa/dune) and the chrome towing mirrors. Seems most of the dealers order the 3500's as a work truck interior or the Denali. I could order, but the deals are not there for that, and buying the Denali would be nice, but I don't think it is worth the extra $6000 for the minor differences. I don't really need a 3500 either, but it would be nice. If I every go that route, I will probably go with the long bed DRW's.

Can you give me your price anyway? I think the dealers are trying to score the employee price for me. Thanks.

Oops! I eyes saw LTZ and my old brain saw LBZ. I was thinking of the 2006-2007.5 Duramax engine designation.

Thanks for correcting me.

You should be able to get 10k or so off msrp if you shop around. I ordered my truck as I couldn't find what I wanted anywhere in the county...and I still got 12k off msrp if I recall

So, here is my deal/dilemma -

Looking at 2016 GMC Sierra 2500HD 6.6L Duramax SLT 4x4 Crew Cab. Selling 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 6.6L Duramax LT 4x4 Crew Cab.

Dealer wants $53000 for the new truck but without seeing my truck only wanted to give me $17500 over the phone (they are a couple hundred miles away). I wanted $20000 for trade in and I wanted to pay $48000 for the new truck out the door.

For the last couple of days they have been saying they are going to work with me, they will make me happy and are sure they can work something out, I will not be disappointed if I just drive up there, the guy is going to be my best friend when this deal is done - all things they have been telling me. They really make it sound like the are going to take my trade.

On the flip side of that, I put my truck up for sale and had offers of $21000 within fifteen minutes of putting it up. I am showing it to some people today for a second time and they basically said they just want to drive it and buy it, but have not said what they want to pay. I told then I was a little negotiable but I was already getting offers.

The dealership won't tell me for sure I have the deal with my trade or without, only pulling me along. They may be able to do a deal, but I don't have anything in writing. I also don't have my truck sold. My fear is I will sell my truck and then not get a deal on the new truck.

I was planning on putting a little cash down anyway, but I really don't want to sell my truck for more, only to pay more for the new truck. I guess technically it is the same thing - sell for $23000, pay $51000 (they haven't agreed to that, but I really think they can come down $2000 if I am going up from their offer of $17500 for my truck - I am moving the $5000 in that deal, but actually only paying $2000 more than I wanted anyway). I really want them to move $5000 down to $48000 and I put more down so I can finance less - in that deal, they don't have to deal with my truck and I feel that they were stringing me along for the $48000 anyway and were going to do it regardless of my trade - that's the way they sound.

I am really just tired of the stress. Dealing with cleaning up my truck and selling it without having a replacement on top of going back and fourth with the dealer about this and stewing on it for the last few days - not to mention work/home stuff like Christmas plans.

Ha ha. Buying rigs sucks!

You didn't ask for opinions, so I'll just say we are all here for ya.

Now for my 2 cents... If this is the truck you want, I would go for it and try to get the price where you want it, but in the end, is it worth not getting the truck?

If it were me, I would sell your truck for more than the trade they will give you. They will never give you more money for the trade (unless you pay them more for the new truck). Then worry about the new truck price. They will never give you the best offer over the phone. So take a weekend trip and go see it. Or call competing dealers and shop the price. The dealers are always going to want to compare the same MSRP numbers so make sure you are shooting strait with the options you are wanting and comparing. They will know if you are jerking their chain.

The only way you know you are getting the best available deal is to shop as many dealers as you can. Call them, ask if they have the configuration you are looking for. If they don't, they will find one. Tell them the deal you found, then see if they want to beat it. They'll let ya know.

I would always be cautions to drive far to visit a dealer who says they have the truck you want. I think car sales man 101 teaches to always say you have the car the customer wants to get them onto the lot. I visited multiple dealers this way only to find out they did not have the right configuration and played stupid when held accountable.

I buy using the employee pricing which is a company benefit some large employers (x plan or perferred pricing some call it) have worked out with the auto makers. My truck came in at 1% under the MSRP. I would just ask the dealer to send you the invoice. Look at the invoice price. There will be a dealer hold back on there. Then you you all see the numbers. If you pay invoice price (not msrp), they still get the dealer hold back which will probably be around a grand. Maybe they spilt the hold back with you. ? In the end, there is only so much the dealer will do. $48K may or may not be doable. If you want that truck, ya just may need to pay more.

Some rigs they are prepared to sell at a bigger discount off MSRP. Usually depends on how long it's been sitting on their lot or how hot of a seller it is. You will usually get a better deal on a truck they have on their lot. If you do a dealer trade to get the truck you want, the original dealer keeps the hold back (typically). If your sales person has the truck you want, I find another truck you are willing to look at else where. Suggest they share the invoice with you so we can just get down to the invoice price, or you can go with the (other guy). They will rather sell their truck at invoice price and keep the hold back, than do a dealer trade when they don't get to keep the hold back (typically).

If the truck you want is a hot seller, they may not discount it as much as you want. But after a year on the lot, that's when the price really gets good.... But then you have to wait and watch and risk loosing it to another buyer. All over a couple grand...

I have also heard that dealerships are rewarded for hitting sales goals. At the end of the month/year they will take a loss on a sale to hit the sale goal which is rewarded by a six figure check. I think that situation is hard to predict, but the end of the month/year deal could be your time....

Good luck!

If you can sell yours for 20-21K I would take it then negotiate the deal on the new truck. You do not know what they will actually allow you for your truck until they appraise it, and then it could be even less then their original offer of 17.5. The fact that you are not trading should give you even more bargaining power on the bottom line, IMO. Ask them what their no trade bottomline price is on that truck..

Take your current truck to car max and get their no obligate offer to buy. The car max number is always very close to what any reputable dealer will offer, just to double check you desire vs reality. You might find that $17.5 is a great deal, then you would start wondering if they are bumping the new truck cost a bit to make up for it. Or you might find $17.5 is terrible -- knowledge is key.

I will say 2.5 years ago I bought my 2007.5 LMM Crew Cab 6' Ft for $26k off a lot. I question if you will really get ~$20k private party for a 2005 toady. I have a good friend buying Duramax right now, he is getting a 2013 LML with 50k miles, leather the works, for ~$35. That is 8 years newer.

Presumably you have been researching and looking at all these prices for days already, and probably know the market quite well - I am just sharing my gut reaction to $20k and 2005.

nunyadamn:

I got about $9K off MSRP. That was with me sitting down with the sales person and building the truck I wanted and ordering it so I got exactly what I wanted. Not much discount on those trucks, especially earlier in the model year but discount would be better now. Over the years I have gotten as much as 21% off MSRP.
I was at the dealer when the truck arrived from the factory. I can account for all but a couple of miles ever put on the truck. If you want to private message me I can explain how to get the GM employee price if you have a copy of the invoice.
BTW. I found excellent pricing (on line!) at Laura Buick GMC in Collinsville (St. Louis) MO. Their pricing might be a good yardstick for the other dealers?

Around here they are not coming off sticker very much. With fuel prices as low as they are now, the dealers are getting premium prices, as they can't keep them on the lots. Everyone wants a truck now that fuel prices are below $2/gallon. I looked at upgrading to a 2500 and quickly walked away since they are not dealing right now...

Yeah that`s the problem with a product that is in demand and short supply. They do not have to come down as much if at all. I recently was talking to a fellow camper about his Ford diesel dually 450 he just bought. Said the price was 73k. I asked was that sticker or what you paid? He said it was what he paid and they did not deal much at all with him.

Just talked to my buddy that purchased through Costco.com. He said he paid $48,800 plus tax, tag and license. No haggle pricing. He said he also got a $500 Costco gift card for purchasing through Costco. He purchased fully loaded '15 Chevy LTZ Duramax Diesel with the extra cab. He said he has every option available.

I bought a 2015 Chevrolet 2500HD Duramax High Country in August. MSRP was $66xxx. With my employee discount, truck month rebates, USAA discount, Chevrolet owner loyalty discount I paid right at 52k.
I wouldn't buy a truck any other time than truck month, the rebates are huge.
