Auxillary Fuel Tank for F250 Diesel Crew Cab

I am considering changing out the OEM fuel tank for a larger one so I can avoid so many fillups when I am towing..wondering if any other folks in here have done the same and any recommendations on brand and if you feel that its really worth the cost? I guess it will be around $1200 including installation.
I don't want the type that goes in the bed because I also haul a golf cart in the truck sometimes.

Only experience I have had is with the bed type, and I know what you are saying about room. I would have to tow quite a bit to make it worth it. I also like to take a break every few hours, so I am not sure I would want to go that far without stopping.

Unless you are filling up in some really cheap areas I would save the money or invest it in exhaust to increase you fuel mileage and lower you EGT's. I went with a 4" turbo back and gained 2MPG. Switched to full synethtic and also gained another 1.5 MPG.

Someone suggested on an earlier post,get some yellow 5 gal fuel jugs and remove when not traveling.When empty just secure with a bungee.

I put a TITAN Tank in my truck... it is double the size of the factory tank and means I can tow for a full day before I have to refuel. Since most modern stations don't easily accommodate RV's this means I can drop the trailer at the end of the day and go and fill up...BUT MAN O MAN DOES IT HURT WHEN YOU FILL THAT SUCKER UP...

I can relate to Seann's issue with finding a stop that will take the height having a 5'er. I am usually scouting out places on the outbound for the inbound should I need one. On the list for me this year is a truck route GPS to help with those stops.

My tank is 38 gal stock which gives me an easy 6hrs towing with another 1 hour cushion to find a stop should I run it that low.

Jerry cans are a thought but that can be messy and should any get on you would ruin the trip due to sever odors coming in the cab.

What size bed do you have in the F250? Year? If it's a short bed than I think it's 29 gal and no mods that would explain your running low so soon.

Can you fit a larger underbed tank is another question depending on bed size? If your towing with a 6.0 then it's proably getting 8-10MPG at best with no mods. If you do some of the mods I mentioned above to the engine at least you will earn a payback on your investment towing or not. Sure your going to still need to stop more often if your tank is the smaller one but you could get another 100 miles per tank with the right changes. Personally I couldn't run over 5hours without stopping.

Daily driving is yielding 17MPG which is about 5MPG than what I was getting before any mods.

There are some threads within this forum on towing MPG with variuos trucks to give you some more insight.

Just my 2 cents based on my individual results.

I have a 2009 F250 diesel crew cab short bed....I believe the OEM holds 35 gallons if you fill it up really slow to get every last gallon in it.. but like the previous post, a lot of modern stations do not easily accomadate a rig as long as I have including the truck + 36 foot fifth wheel..so it would be nice to be able to drive all day without a fillup, or at least not have to maneuver a gas station with the rig..i have to stop also about every 4-5 hrs, but rest areas, walmarts, etc are much easier to drive around than most gas stations.

PCX, the tanks range from as "little" as 40gal to as much as 60+ depending on things like ground clearence desired and truck configuration. These are full replacement tanks, not add on's. There's a few companies that might even offer install depending on your proximity of their shops. Good luck.

Titan tanks double the size of the original tank... my 26 gallon Chevy tank became a 52 gallon tank.

I have the same Titan tank as Seann45 and love it. Will it pay off in savings from buying at cheaper stations, probably not, but I do have the option to buy at those stations and we all know diesel does vary station to station much more than gasoline.
My tank holds 52 gallons. Not long after I got it I put 5 gallons in a can in the back and ran the tank until almost empty. At the 50 gallons used on the DIC, I gave up and put the five in and then went and filled up. I wanted to make sure the bigger tank was in fact being sucked down and that I really did have 52 gallons.
Would I do it again? You bet!

I think the larger tank is money well spent on any truck. Granted, it does give you the option to shop for cheaper fuel, but a few cents isn't going to break the bank and that's not the main reason for having it. The real advantage is that it allows you to pass a station that looks like it may present a problem getting out of and keep looking. I still make a bladder stop about every 250 miles, but I'm not forced to start looking for a station every 150 miles like I did with the OEM fuel tank.

The Transfer Flow tank is $1300. They were the only ones that I could find that made tanks for gassers. I think there are some cheaper diesel tanks out there.

It will really depend on who you buy it from and what your local labor rates are. I think you can buy direct from Titan but they must charge full MRSP.. dealers may sell for less.

It's a specialty item and you aren't likely to find it discounted anywhere, but you never know. My local Transfer Flow dealer was higher than buying it from the factory, and even paying freight, I saved a few bucks by ordering direct and not paying sales tax. The installation charge was going to be the same either way.
